I was on a budget and needed somewhere for one night and this hotel was perfect.

The reception was well serviced and staff very helpful and the location very central for the heart of Barcelona.

The room was basic but quiet and had a good bathroom.

There were restaurants and a shop on the street below for all additional needs.

For a place to sleep and stay, when on a budget, it was great.

Good room for good price. Clean room, clean service every day. Hostal located in gothic guarter, 1,4 km from beach, cca 3 km from Sagrada and La Rambla, about 4 km from Magic fontain and Casa Mila. In room with our shower is only ceiling fan, in summer is not much.

The best thing about this hostal is its location, so if you are going to be out a lot this is the perfect place. We stayed here for a week, in a room with our own bathroom and it was just a simple room with a bed, two chairs and a table. The room was cleaned every day and the staff was really helpful. There is an AC in the bathroom. The only negative thing about our room was the beds, they were so hard and uncomfortable, so if you have trouble with your back don't stay here.

Overall, a good value for the money.

When I went with my wife and daughter to Barcelona, we were quite scared of finding an accommodation not up to the Nordics' standard for an affordable price. However, when we arrived at the Hostel Nuevo Colón, we were positively surprised by the cleanliness, the warmth and kindness of its workers and owner, the central position of the place and its good price.
We definitely recommend and we now know where to accommodate ourselves the next time that we visit Barcelona.

We spent 5 days at Hostel Neuvo Colon and had a great time. The hostel is located about 10minutes walk from the Ramblas and close to alot of good restaurants and bars. The rooms were basic, but very spacious and clean (and the beds very comfortable!). The bathrooms were very good - relatively modern and quite spacious as well (certainly compared to some of the hotels I've been in!). There was occassional noise from other guests, but on the whole it was very quiet. The hotel had a 24hour reception, was very secure and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. It is certainly one of the best hotels in that price bracket (62euro for a twin room). I would I definitely recommend this hotel to friends and stay there again myself on future visits.

Great location (opposite Estació de França Station), nice staff and free, fast WiFi connection. Our room was facing the street and we were a bit afraid of the noise but in fact the third floor and new windows were enough to keep the room quiet. Also, the room itself was big and comfortable (we had a double with bathroom), the view from balcony spread from Ciutadella Park to Columbus Monument and Montjuic hill.

We loved their old fashioned lift, it may not be the fastest or biggest one in the world but most definitely has a certain charm, reminded us of this old Bunuel movies!

Having stayed two times at the nearby Hostal Orleans, I this time tried Hostal Nuevo Colon just up the street(having decided the location in advance, due to the short distance to Barceloneta and the Gothic part of the city).
Sure, there were many steps to reach the reception, but a charming,old-fashioned elevator did the trick when arriving and leaving with the luggage. The staff were friendly and to the point,we got adjoining rooms with a view to Estacio Franca as requested. The rooms(two doubles) were spacy for a hostal, excellent beds, clean and tidy, recently renovated. Good bathroom with shower. No noise from other rooms, just a distant humming from the traffic down on the street when the balcony door was closed.
I surely would recommend this hostal.Excellent value for money.

The room was very basic, which is what I was expecting. You get what you pay for. If you want luxury this isn't the place for you. If you just need a comfortable place to sleep at night this does just fine.
Staff were helpful, the room was clean and the location was fantastic. The only negative thing is the walls are very thin. Thankfully we didn't have loud neighbours.

This place was great! We stayed for a week last year. When we arrived the staff was like the friendliest ever. There are couple of charming older gentlemens working behind the desk. Be careful with all those hidden jokes they keep throwing at you =)!! They were worried about our safety every time we left the hostel and recommended the hotels own safety box. That is something I call friendly customer service.

The room was spotless and fresh. And it was cleaned every noon. We had our own little balcony. The cleaning lady was as polite as the other staff when she knocked our door if we slept later than usually. Bathroom was in the corridor and it was as shining as our room was. And so was the case with the shover also, which was included to the bathroom.

The location could not be better. It is halfway from the Ramblas and the beach Barceloneta. You can walk to both of those in 15 minutes. Franca railway station is on the opposite side of the hostel and Barceloneta metro station is 10 min walk away.

During the trip we didn't have any those grumpy faces which you might have seen in the top end -hotels and the room was spotless all the time. We really recommend this place, if you don't want to pay too much for a pool on the roof or internet connection!!

Spotlessly clean. Staff was friendly and did their best to be accomodating.

Noisy, although not in the hotels' control: Jackhammering from somewhere (not in the hotel) started early, went on all day and into the night. Other guests could be easily heard.

No internet capabilities of any kind that I could see...No snacks available, except for a coffee machine and a soda machine.

The room was ample; maid service was in and out in a timely fashion every day.

Elevator was out of order, and there didn't appear to be any ongoing repair, so get ready for the 4 flight walkup (one does get used to that...).

Location was OK; Estacio de Franca Train station was just across the street, but lacked the amenities of most big city train stations. The big park/zoo are just a block away (nice!), and there is a restaurant about a block away that is open very VERY late. The nearest Metro is Barceloneta, about a 5 minute walk, kind of behind the train station.

As noted earlier, this place was absolutely sparkling. The area felt safe and quiet.
