We have just returned from a short trip to Barcelona. I have to say we are quite picky some might say difficult guests, and usually check out of more hotels than we stay in. This hotel was a last minute choice, and I was worried we were too hasty as we made our way through the airport.

We most definitely made the right choice. What stands out at this hotel is the service. It is impeccable from every single team member, they were extremely warm and welcoming, and did everything possible to ensure we enjoyed our stay. It was a very similar guest experience to the Four Seasons chain, extremely attentive, caring and genuine.

Book the hotel car if you need an airport shuttle or are taking a trip out. It was a very elegant and a comfortable alternative to the taxis, and well worth the little extra - and good value. The driver was so kind, and even carried our suitcase to the right check in desk (not a short walk) and could not have been nicer.

The location of the hotel is the just the best, you will not find better. We liked being within walking distance of everywhere.

The rooms themselves are spotlessly clean, I liked the fact they did a full clean every single day, so the room felt so clean and refreshed. A small thing, but so many English channels made us feel very welcome, and after a long day walking in the middle of winter it was nice to return and relax. If I was being very choosy I would prefer the rooms to be painted in a colour that was perhaps brighter, but the decor was in excellent order and in keeping with its surroundings.

The restaurant was just fabulous, no need to trudge anywhere else in the evening. The bar had a fun vibe, cocktails and a great atmosphere, and the restaurant had an air of refinement and gorgeous offerings. Including a very good vegetarian menu, that we appreciated. The service was attentive and courteous, and we had a really super evening.

The rooftop pool was seriously insta worthy in my teens words, and although very refreshing we managed a long swim even in the middle of January!!!!

The concierge were able to organise tickets and cars for us effortlessly allowing us to miss all of the queues, and I have to say we all agreed that we will definitely be returning to Barcelona, it is such a great city, and we would return in a heartbeat to the Grand Central - this time pre booking the driver to pick us up! Altogether, a fantastic hotel offering surely the best service in the city, and you will not be disappointed.

After a week on the Costa Brava, the Grand Hotel Central was a fantastic place to cap off on incredible trip. The location across the street from the Cathedral is excellent with easy access to the Gothic District, Las Ramblas and tons of restaurants and shopping. The pool provided much needed refreshment from the 90 degree heat and humidity and the view is amazing. Our room was a suite and it did not disappoint. The two showers was a nice bonus and the staff left us gifts of sweets (more than the customary chocolate on the pillow) every evening. Dinner at Bistro Helena was delicious, but without the €50 credit we probably would have skipped it. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was quite good for a hotel breakfast buffet. The staff was attentive and remembered our coffee preferences from day 1. The breakfast cava was also a nice touch. I'd definitely stay here again.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile and offered a complimentary beverage....the staff was very attentive! The location could not be beat and what a beautiful roof deck overlooking the city of Barcelona!! It was the perfect spot for a Valentines Day cocktail and tapas. We will be back!!

Pool
We booked this hotel specifically because we wanted to treat ourselves to a 5* break in Barcelona. We booked believing there was a heated pool for the children and because it had a sauna etc. Unfortunately, the pool was absolutely freezing so we could not use it out of fear we would get sick. Staff said it was heated to 24C - this seems a little low for an outdoor pool, more so because it was in middle of February. We have been to hot destinations which have had heated pools much warmer than this. Secondly, it seems the water was not even being heated. Other guests also told us that the water had been cold during their stay.

Sauna / Wellbeing facilities
As regards the sauna etc, it was very shocking to learn that the use of these facilities was not included in the room rate - we were told it was 80 Euros pp per hour to use which is extortionate. (Also, the facilities were tiny) I've never been asked to pay extra to use the sauna/ steam facilities at a hotel. I understand that there is an additional charge for treatment, but find it completely unacceptable to have to pay extra for sauna etc. We spent a lot of time walking so we could see the city, and we were looking forward to unwinding in the heated facilities at the end of the day. What a let down!

Breakfast
There was a fair selection of cold food for breakfast, but what was very disappointing was that the only hot vegetarian/ vegan food (mushrooms and new potatoes) were kept in the same food warmer as the bacon. People were using the same serving spoons in both the veg and non veg options, and, to top it off, I found some bacon in the mushroom section. For a 5* hotel, it seemed very backwards and ignorant of vegan/ vegetarian guests' comfort.

Bar/ Drinks
We wanted to enjoy some family down time in the bar. The kids wanted hot chocolate but the hotel only had the pre packaged Nesquick stuff. Not 5 *. Also we found that every time we ordered mint tea, it was actually green tea packaged as mint tea - these are not the same thing and they have very different flavours and benefits. Not good!

Overall I would say it was a clean hotel with friendly staff, but definitely not value for money. Not what I expected and not the luxury hotel I believed it to be based on the way it is advertised. I would have been better off staying at a 3*/ or 4* hotel and saved myself a lot of money.

I am sorry to hear that you were not impressed with our hotel and we didn’t reach your expectations during your stay with us. Regarding your comments about the temperature of the infinity pool at the rooftop, unfortunately we had an issue and our maintenance department tried to solve it as soon as possible in order to heat the pool. As in our website and the wellbeing brochure announced, the Thermal Suite with the hammam and the sauna is with an extra cost. However, when our guests book a couple of massages from 60 minutes, we offer a 30 minutes complimentary Thermal Suite. We are sorry to hear about your experience at the breakfast room and at the bar. I shall pass this information to the Food and Beverage Manager in order to make sure that this incident does not reoccur in the future. At the breakfast room, vegetarian and no vegetarian food are on the same area but in separate trays with their own serving spoons. We will try to take care that all the guests use the spoons properly. We are always glad to receive a review in order to improve our services and we take well note about all your comments. However, we would have liked to know that your experience with us during your stay was not as you expected, and I am sure that we could have changed your experience to an excellent one. It has been a while since we have stayed in such a great hotel.
The service/hospitality during our stay was fantastic. All the team did everything possible to ensure our stay was perfect, but especially Front of House Manager Jaime Estellés who went above and beyond our expectations every day, including personally ensuring we got out of the public carpark with the hotel QR code
Our room (712), as promised was extremely quiet and comfortable with everything you hope for in a hotel of this calibre.
Breakfast was good and relaxed with a good selection of food.
The bar was quiet each time we went, but served excellent quality drinks including one of the best ports we have ever had.
The location is excellent - easy walking distant to the beach, la ramblas and for those who enjoy a long walk, the amazingly atmospheric Sagrada Familia which just took our breath away.
Taxis are cheap and abundant so if you need to rest your feet after a long walk, this is an affordable option.
The rooftop pool is wonderful - we managed a very enjoyable swim despite it being December because we were lucky enough to enjoy unusually high temperatures during our 2 days, which added to the perfection of our stay.
We wished we had booked for longer - next time we definitely will.

I've stayed in a lot of hotels around the world, this hotel takes some beating in terms of value, service, cleanliness and just dam right good.

The staff appear to prempt your every request, they are professional and the service they provide TO THE CUSTOMER is at their heart, it's a shame other hotels I've stayed do not share this approach.....its free!

You really are made to feel special here and that's a feeling I personally haven't experienced in a long time so well done to the staff and management team.

Location suited us very well, there were some demos going on outside at the time but this was all received as visiting Spain and added to the cultural experience!

My wife and I and our two sons (13, 18) stayed here for 3 nights in the February half term. This is an excellent hotel. My wife and I stayed in a junior suite, whilst the lads stayed in a standard double next door. Both rooms exceeded our expectations and were extremely clean and comfortable. The location is excellent and the facilities are very good. The quality of service delivered by all staff members is the best we have experienced. They made us feel at home from the moment we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a short stay in Barcelona.

Nice location in Barcelona. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Daily breakfast is a buffet and is fabulous. Best part of the hotel is the rooftop bar with views not be missed. The rooms are nicely appointed but on the small side. Some rooms have small tubs with showers which the people staying in did not like. We had a room with a nice walk in shower which we liked. The view from our room was dismal leading to detracting a star from the rating.

This hotel is very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. It's very well located in Barcelona either walking distance or short taxi ride to just about everywhere. The room was very modern and attractive.
The only minor negatives was our room was a little dark and the lighting seemed to be slightly inadequate. We also weren't crazy about the closet being in the vanity area of the bathroom. It made it a little tough for two people to shower and get dressed at the same time. Once again, these were relatively small issues, but overall it's an excellent hotel.

Barcelona is already an amazing city and to top that our staying at the Grand Hotel Central was really nice! The hotel is a combination of traditional and modern. The building has a traditional, old feeling architecture and decor combined with all the modern amenities. From the moment we arrived everyone was very friendly and professional. Even though we arrived earlier, we were able to check in into a beautiful room facing the main street on the 7th floor. What a view! The room was very spacious, modern, clean and beautifully decorated. The bathroom had plenty of amenities and a separated bathtub area. We also visited the bar a few times and loved the bartender from Italy who was very generous on his pours. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options to choose from. On my birthday day to my surprise, upon our return from a long sightseeing day we find a bottle of chilled champagne in our room. Thank you so much for this nice gesture! It was very much appreciated! We had a fabulous time in Barcelona, and part of it was our staying at this great hotel! We'll look forward to returning soon in the near future.

No need to book to use the pool. We had drinks and we were 8 people so i did reserve in advance. But I don't think it will be a problem if you walk in.

For late check outs, it needs to be requested on the same day of departure and from there we will check for your the different options.
