The Ideal Youth Hostel opened in the year 2000 in a typical Barcelona city-centre-style building. It's an experienced hostel located near the famous La Rambla and next to the Opera House. The traditional historical appearance of the façade has been maintained, while the interior is modern with a minimal industrial look, including silver concrete walls and coloured neon lights. We try to cater to both single backpackers as well as groups, offering all that you need to help you enjoy your stay in the city.Accommodation is offered in single rooms and private or shared rooms for two, four, six, eight or ten people. Most of the rooms have their own balcony, individual WC and free hot showers. Furthermore, the hostel provides individual lockers in each room, free of charge. We also offer a terrace, linen, vending machines, self-service laundrette, microwave and fridge and a lounge in which you can relax.Upon request, half- or full-board meals and lunch boxes are available.

Stayed here for 3 nights as it was centrally located for all our Barcelona activities. Arrived early but our bags were stored until we checked in later on the day and after we checked out. Rooms and bathrooms were clean as were the communal areas.

It wasn't the worst conditions, that I've seen. Ideal Youth Hostel has a good location, which is big advantage. Staff is nice and very helpful. I recommend it for young people, who doesn't care too much about conditions of living, but good time and good atmosphere ...for few euros. Barcelona is not a city, where you can be bored and I bet that you will remember only the good things.

This place was weird. It´s supposed to be a proper hostel, but you can feel there are many dodgy things about it. First of all, they take as much money for a room in one of their two buildings, in La Rambla, as for a room in their main building. And the building in La Rambla is old, extremely noisy, not clean, very badly equipped, and I even saw a huge cocroach on the toilet cailing while I was taking a shower. Groze!
Their main building is a bit better, but still just about acceptable. Breakfast consist of little and very poor tasting toasts, coffee and "juice", and well... I don´t know exactly where and when, but in this hostel I´ve got BED BUGS´ bites. Enough said.

“Ideal” in name, but NOT in reality. We spent four nights there, in three different rooms, because the hostel was so ridiculously overbooked. We kept finding ourselves locked out of our room, only to hear from the INCREDIBLY unhelpful and unsympathetic staff that our booking did not exist. We were moved from our all female dorm to a mixed dorm without being informed, and it took us asking to clarify that our dorm was female for them to tell us it was not. We had originally booked an all female dorm, and felt uncomfortable in the mixed, so we were moved yet again. Beyond all of these booking confusions, the Ideal Youth Hostel is not ideal for meeting other youths. First of all, the median age of folks in the hostel was at LEAST 45. The hostel also does not organize any group meetings or excursions, and the common areas are dark, grimy, empty, and unpleasant. While there is a kitchen, it is locked all the time, and you practically have to fight with the receptionists to get a fork. The hostel IS well located for exploring the city, but I’d take a few extra minutes of walking or a metro stop or two over staying in the massively touristy Ramblas anyways. Whatever you do, don’t spend your money on this hostel.

⭐Disappointing Experience at Ideal Youth Hostel⭐

My recent stay at Ideal Youth Hostel in the Gothic district was unfortunately quite disappointing. Despite its prime location and friendly front desk staff, the overall experience fell far short of expectations.

Pros:
The only redeeming qualities of Ideal Youth Hostel were its location in the heart of the Gothic district and the friendly demeanor of the front desk hosts. They made an effort to welcome guests and create a sense of hospitality.

Cons:
However, the accommodations themselves were dismal. The rooms resembled jail cells, with minimal natural light and a view of nothing but a concrete wall outside the window. The lack of comfort and ambiance made for a truly unpleasant stay.

Final Thoughts:
In conclusion, while Ideal Youth Hostel may benefit from its central location and friendly staff, however for a truly enjoyable stay, I would recommend exploring other options in the area.

I have booked my bed through Booking.com and when I arrived the receptionist told me, firstly, that the bed I have reserved was not disposable, but that he has another in the structure and to sit to wait for him fixing the system problem. Only after one hour he told me that he had not another bed to offer me. He refund me and he told me to go away. Not the best solution for a girl who was travelling alone, at 7pm in Barcelona.
Anyway the position is perfect and the receptionist kind (poor him, it’s not your fault after all!)

The name of this hostel must be a play on words. This is easily one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed in. The rooms are like a shoebox with 6 - 8 bunks shoved in - they are so close together that two people cannot walk past each other between them. With 8 people in the room and one door to the balcony it gets very hot in summer - not helped by the lack of fans in the rooms. The beds are very noisy and uncomfortable. I ended up taking my mattress outside and sleeping on the balcony to try to escape the stifling heat in the room - it wasn't even that hot when I was there. The bathroom was dirty - the shower hardly worked and the toilet stank. On top of this the staff were rude and unhelpful. It was not uncommen to see people having an argument with them in the morning. The hostel has a policy of a minimum stay of two nights - surely because everyone wants to leave after the first night. The most surprising this about this place is that it is not cheap. at ?25 a night during the high season it is extremely expensive. The only good point about this hostel is that it is just off Las Ramblas - but then again - so are 90% of the hostels.Only stay here if you are stuck for somewhere to stay - as we were and it seemed most of the other people who were there.

Don't let the cameras and magnetic keys give you a sense of security. All my belongings and the ones from other 5 gests were stolen from the room, as well what was in the lockers, that can be easily forced open without opening the padlocks. During the robbery the fire exit was used and the alarm didn't work.
The hostel answer to our complaint was that it was our fault for not looking after or belongings.

Dear guest, We are very sorry about was happened. It really did not happen as you report. All our alarms and security doors work. They are regulated and inspected according to the regulations. We always remind our customers that they must be attentive and not lose sight of their luggage and we offer safe box , free, in reception to store valuable belongings.

1) Staff range between entirely apathetic to just plain rude.

2) Unisex / communal showers - that's right, guys and gals, no privacy even between the sexes.

3) Allegedly 'drinkable' water smelt of eggs (to be charitable about it!) - I insisted on using water purifying tablets but my travelling companions accused me of being too fussy. They were violently ill, I wasn't. Go figure.

4) Beds crammed in as tight as possible in the dorms with barely any room to breathe, which only accentuates the whole 'lack of personal space' theme.

5) Decor is horrifically depressing - all concrete, no natural daylight, looks like it was themed around a nuclear bunker.

6) Really filthy - on arrival I nearly stepped on a used condom that was littering the corridor. In three days no action was taken to dispose of it.

In summary - a cramped, filthy and depressing place that I was relieved to be able to leave.

Gross. Don't stay here. This hostel had no pillows, bugs on their sheets, guests who snuck in and stole other people's beds (obviously terrible security), and a bitter staff. There was a line out the door the following morning of people complaining, and the way the staff dealt with the complaints was to yell at them. Their "10 person mixed suite" is in actuality a 26 person sketchy area. STAY AWAY!! Save yourself the trouble and just stay in a nice hotel because many are available in barcelona for a very similar price to what you end up paying for the hostel.
