The first thing you'll notice at Macdonald Villacana are the beautiful gardens. Flowers cascading over white walls, lemon trees, swaying palms, fountains and luscious landscaped lawns creating a wonderful array of colours and aromas. A real oasis. Wander amongst the apartments and it's like being in a small Spanish village. Flower bordered lanes, traditional street lamps, intimate doorways and arches which open out into landscaped gardens, the swimming pool, dining and leisure facilities. With a great selection of on-site activities, close proximity to a fabulous beach and great location within the Costa Del Sol its no surprise this resort is a huge hit for couples and for families. With some world class golf courses nearby you might even want to bring your clubs.

Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The resort is so beautifully planted and cared for that it lifts the spirits to wander through paths and walkways of a little pueblo blanco by the sea. Our unit Jorge 43 needs a bit of updating, particularly the kitchen area, but it was perfectly comfortable and had every thing we needed. The staff were exceptionally helpful, The local village Cancelada has some good places to eat and Estepona is a short, cheap bus ride away with a service every 30 minutes. Mayte in RReceeption went out of her way to help us when my husband lost his glasses. It was our first visit to Villacana and we would happily return.

From the moment we arrived we got the most welcoming welcome as we was worried we wouldn’t be able to check in straight away but we arrived at 1400 and got our Villa straight away, the staff there at reception Vanessa and Irene were so lovely that no matter what question I had for them they helped me in every way. The whole villa is so beautiful and the Maintenance team are there from the morning in the beaming hot sun maintaining the whole villa in which is kept to a high standard level. The housekeeping ladies are so nice and smiling and welcoming that my aunt checked out before us and forgot her jewellery and some what money behind and they held onto it till the day we departed to hand it over to us as they couldn’t contact her. I have never heard of a place that will be so thoughtful and helpful. It’s just such a beautiful place to see.. yes the location isn’t ideal but you have a beach there it’s in walking distance and Burger King to Lidl a walk away… to travel around use Bolt as it’s cheaper then a normal taxi, even from the airport to the villa and back it’s a 45min ride costing €75 with bolt. I’m missing the tranquility there and couldn’t get enough of looking at the plants and flowers especially the water fountain’s. Just an amazing place with amazing staff.

The service-the location -the styling of of the resort and the overall ambience all add up to the reasons why I return here almost every year for over the last 25 years. The main pool is a bit on the smaller size but good for young families with kids. The upper pool is a more adult relaxed environment to spend your time.

The resort is pretty etc but thought we should mention the activities there. Lisa is the entertainments Manager and works very hard to provide varied items to help people meet up especially if on their own. During the two weeks we were there : we enjoyed Aquarobics in the pool to burn off the all the meals we were enjoying, walks to the local village Cancellada for breakfast. Lisa arranged Sangria tutorials, bingo and Spanish lessons and was always on hand to help us if necessary. Not to mention advice on where to go and where to eat. Thank you Lisa!

We have been staying here regularly for over 30 years ( until Covid) yes the place must be good to keep going back for all that time. As we have been regular visitors the staff from gardeners, to cleaners and reception staff have become family friends, and are very welcoming when we arrive. Alas things change, we no longer have the same apartment, we get given what’s available,, and Points Points are like “ Green Shield stamps” if you don’t use them… you loose them, when we were younger we could plan to go for Two week vacations……. with points I was given weeks ( not two together) So to Spain for a week home for a week and back to Spain again ? These are internal problems….. but if you get a chance to stay here … take itk

We booked a family getaway for a week in February and it couldn’t have worked out better. Heated pools and Spa facilities to ourselves as well as the beach. Lovely weather too! The resort is so quiet and peaceful despite the close proximity to a main road. Great accommodation standards and excellent grounds. The restaurant and bar was closed out of season but there are plenty to enjoy 10mins walk away in the village of Cancelada.

The resort is beautiful and well cared for. All staff were friendly and efficient and the apartment spacious and well equipped. The beach was a few minutes walk away and busses stopped very close to the resort.

Excellent resort, all apartments are kept to a high standard. Staff are friendly, polite and nothing is too much trouble. We have been coming to this resort for over 25 years. The new ramps/walkways in particular to the pool and restaurant are brilliant especially for pushchairs, prams and wheel chairs. The resort is clean and pools checked during the day. The Covid rules in Spain are being fully adhered to including the resort staff.

I am surprised to see good reviews about this hotel. I booked it in March for my husband, but he arrived and has to leave immediately.
It was disgusting, according to him. It was after 7 pm there was no one on the premises just a security guard, who tried to help but could not. They do not have a complaint book. After a few months of negotiation, the hotel manager said that if I apologize for my partner's behavior he will refund.
700 euros is a significant amount for me.
I did. After a few months of talking to booking.com, they confirm that the money will be paid in 20 working days.
When, again, I asked about when the money will arrive bookin.com said there is nothing they can do. But "I can write a review to help them improve". However, after so many months it is not possible anymore to write a review there.
How do I feel? Very stupid, very frustrated and powerless. It seems they just took my money because they could and I cannot do anything about it.

My daughter and I had a fabulous holiday in Villacana. My grandchildren had so much fun as there are numerous pools and a playground, along with easy access to the beach. Lisa was exceptionally caring and helpful in providing pool floats, buckets and spades but most importantly lots of fun and laughter. The bar staff were also amazing and made our dining experiences very special. We enjoyed tapas in the local village of Cancelada and Estapona town especially the market. We will of course be going back to Villacana. Thank you!

The “ on beach” appts are on the south side, and around the BIG pool, and few bars / restaurants.
There are 2 complexes really, North and South.
The South deals with on beach appts, and I would contact them as regards rooftops , patios, as I can recall as you walk down to the beach from the North to the beach I have seen both types in that vicinity…..also there will be a LOT of people in Villacana in the “ Red weeks “ Enjoy it is a lovely area with excellent staff , and beautiful gardens.
There are more places to choose from in the Estepona area.
