I visited Bamfield for the first time over May long weekend and stayed at Mckay Bay Lodge. The experience was unlike anything I've had before. We stayed in the Forest View Cabin, which was beautiful and had an amazing fishing experience each morning. I loved the gorgeous BBQ area overlooking the water where we ate delicious food. The hot tub in the forest off of the lodge was so serene. I will definitely be back. The Mckay's were wonderful hosts and I would recommend a trip out to Bamfield to anybody looking for a getaway from city life.

My sister-in-law and I spent two nights at the Lodge in July while we attended Music by the Sea. It was a welcoming place with a beautiful deck and outlook to the inlet, cozy sitting room, comfortable bedrooms and a dining room filled with delicious treats! The staff were very accommodating with food preparation and showed us to the back kitchen where we could really make ourselves at home with access to drinks and snacks. The cinnamon apple loaf was a wonderful treat at midnight after a late concert. But it wasn't all about the food - the grounds are lovely with many spots for taking in the views and the lodge isn't far from Brady's Beach. Well worth the walk to this spectacular beach! It is clear that hospitality has been in this family for generations - thanks very much.

We were unfamiliar with Bamfield's inlet set up on the way in, and were surprised to find the community has two "shores" with an inlet in between, with McKay Bay on the side that requires a boat ride to get there. Nevertheless, we would recommend it! The five minute boat ride is worth the trip! The rooms are well set up, the owners and staff are very accommodating, and the food - full breakfast and dinner, and bag lunches for your adventures out and about, is great!

The kids were at camp and my husband was working - what better time to steal away for a solo adventure to a gem of a spot I have been dying to visit - Bamfield, BC. With no advance research, I called the first lodge I found in West Bamfield (boat access only) and I was lucky to land an available room on a busy summer weekend, though all the other rooms were fully booked. Bring 50 cents in change to the pay phone near the public dock at East Bamfield in order to call the Lodge for a ride across the inlet. (Cell receptivity near the dock is not available). Heather from the Lodge promptly greeted me with a boat, and in seconds we were across the inlet where a giant sea lion likewise welcomed me. My room was exceedingly clean, and the bed and linens were really cozy and comfortable. An evening meal of sole, salad, potatoes, roasted tomatoes and maple cake was lovingly prepared by Sue, one of the two outstanding chefs at the Lodge. (Amazing tartar sauce!) I toured West Bamfield and the inlet on foot and hydro bike respectively (bike provided by the Lodge, one of two). Brady Beach and the Boardwalk are must sees and very close to the Lodge (frankly everything is close at West Bamfield). My sleep was exceptional and the Belgian waffles with homemade plum sauce crafted by Nancy, the second standout chef at the Lodge, were positively delicious. Though I only stayed a night, a packed lunch made by Heather enabled me to eat al fresco while beaching at Brady. My departure to the govt dock was on my schedule which I greatly appreciated. Boaters are also welcome to moor their vessels and stay for a night or two, though Management needs advance warning if boats are staying. In sum, I would highly recommend the McKay Bay Lodge if Bamfield is on your to do list! A very special thanks to Sue and Nancy! (One note: the shower head in Rm5 may need some attention).

We usually like to make one trip here every year. And this year was great we caught lots of fish and enjoyed our four days there
They have several guided boats and a good knowledgeable guide. The rooms are spartan but quite comfortable. All in all its a great place to go fishing.the food is excellent and the people who work there are very good. The Lodge is well equipped including good docks and a flash freezer for your catch.

We had another 6 night stay this year. Bed was great, food was wonderful, they remembered to get supplies for our dietary needs. Did forget the 'no dairy / no mustard' in the lunch sandwiches a couple of days, but plenty was packed so we didn't go hungry. Super friendly other guests happily sharing their fishing knowledge, as did the guide at the dock. Beautiful location, comfortable place, and the vacuum packer for packaging out fish worked perfectly. Thanks everyone for a memorable time (and the birthday song after dinner) - will be back next year!

WAS quiet and the linens and bed soooo soft. Marina the chef was not only a top notch chef but an extremely talented vocal stylist. We are grateful and will be returning!

Just returned from an amazing four night stay in the forest cabin at McKay Bay Lodge. Clean, quiet, lovely beds and a great kitchen. The McKay's built, maintain and manage this lovely retreat. They, and their staff, are very friendly and helpful. Whether you are fishing, hiking, or just want a quiet retreat in a spectacular area, this is a great place to stay and we will be back!

Thank you for the great review! You ladies were wonderful to have here. We all enjoyed the painted shells that were placed by the doorstep. We will try and make the pick-up off the boat less confusing next time (haha). See you next season :) -McKay Bay Lodge
