My partner and I spontaneously decided to stay here as I received a promotion coupon via e-mail. We have passed this hotel many times visiting Barrie from Orillia and thought Monte Carlo Hotels were known to be decent so we took advantage of the deal we received which offered a jaccuzi tub in room. Upon arrival, the hotel had an eerie feeling. It was very dull and quiet. Nobody parked in the parking lot, or around inside the hotel. It felt like a Motel vibe. We checked in, and our room was decent - we don't complain much when we get a jaccuzi in room. The jaccuzi water took a few good runs before we got clean water, and the plug hardly worked. Their pool was heated superbly but needs renovating as it looks and feels dirty to swim in. They advertise room service, but don't actually offer it. Their breakfast is complimentary so don't pay the additional fee if prompted too when booking via their website. The breakfast consisted of small variety of fruit, toast, bagels, yogurt and muffins. Truck Stop Coffee Shop like variety to say the least. Beds were comfortable, but the room didn't feel as clean as it could have and it was quite noisy in room (fan unable to be controlled, noise above, etc). Their gym is very small, which is fine for a hotel. This hotel has potential but they would need to rebuild their reputation.

Early check in was arrange on the morning of the booking which was good.
Bed was comfy and room was a nice size.
When running a bath, I noticed the water looked yellow (jacuzzi bath) without turning the jets on or getting in, the water left a thick yellow stain around the edge of the bath. Wasn’t something i wanted to get into.
My picture showed what it did to the flannel that had fallen into the water.
Massive mould above the bedroom curtain. With everyone scared due to covid, this hotel needs to get with it in regards to being clean.
The hotel is priced with including breakfast but their restaurants are closed and no take out breakfast was offered at all.
So why did I pay $175 for a night for room and breakfast?
I posted pictures on another site and a 5/10 rating. They deleted the pictures and changed my rating to 10/10

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your feedback. We want to start off by apologizing for any negative experience you may have had. We can assure you that this does not fall within Monte Carlo Inns standards and we will do our best to make it right by you. Our complimentary breakfast is currently being offered in a takeaway style. We do apologize if none of our guest service agents mentioned this to you during your stay. Unfortunately, due to the hardness of the water in Barrie, the water does have a yellow tinge to it. You can also notice it in the toilets at times. Though we do our best to minimize this, if the water in a room had not run for some time, it can come out more discolored than usual. And we are currently inspecting all of our rooms and ensuring there is no mold. Please do call down our agents next time as we would have been more than happy to upgrade you or switch your rooms. Lastly, we can assure you that we do not have the ability to delete or change photos on any review sites. These sites, similarly to Trip Advisor, are based on customer reviews, and if we had the ability to change or cover up any guest reviews, then these sites would be virtually pointless. Please contact that site to see exactly what happened. If you would like to discuss these matters further, please contact our customer service team which can be found on our wensite. Thank you and we hope we will get the opportunity to serve you in the future. best, Sabrina

This hotel is a very Solid 3 Star (for my particular room, better, more expensive rooms may change my opinion) The hotel is extremely easy to get to since its literally impossible to miss from the highway when traveling north. Its clean, the room smelled good, was clean and overall nice presentation. The only down side to the room was the crazy deep tub, if you have bad knees or legs your going to have a Bïťçh of a time getting in and out of it. My room had 2 beds, desks, sitting chairs, microwave, fridge, safe, and tv. The pool is rather small and disappointing. Due to Covid-19 you can only be in it for 30mins at a time after booking swim times. There is NOT HOT TUBS or work out facility that I could see. The pool was quit warm and its deepest was up to my chest. (I'm 5 foot 11)

The property advertises free cancellation and $100 deposit. The drivers were asked for a $250 deposit and they would not accept a company credit card from me to cover incidentals. We are now being refused a refund for unused rooms and I had to find alternate accommodations for truck drivers who were stopped with oversize loads. The counter person was rude and would not contact a manager. The manager, being contacted at a later date, does not return calls.

Stayed for a hockey tournament. Our team was scattered through the hotel on different floors, lobby attendants are not pleasant or very helpful and many of our team had to wait 2 + hrs to get their room.
When I first walked into the hotel from my car, it was by the washrooms. Reeked of urine. Smell didn't get much better as I made my way to the lobby. The pool was out of order for the whole weekend as well.
Lastly, the rooms are ok but beds are not comfortable. TV pictures aren't sharp. We were trying to watch the Leafs' game on the Sat night and many of us had trouble making out numbers on the jerseys. Lastly, NEVER use the pull out couches. My 7 and 9 yr old sons said they couldn't sleep on it. I tried and the mattress is 3 inches thick and has springs/coils all throughout it with no padding before the outside of the mattress. So you're basically laying on coils.
Much, much better hotels to stay at in Barrie for the same price.

Thank you for your feedback. We do apologize that the wait time to get a room was up to 2 hours. Our weekends are very hectic, with teams checking in and out, giving our housekeepers only 2-3 hours to clean the rooms. We want to ensure this is done to Monte Carlo Inns standards and do not skip any steps, delaying check in times. We will definitely take a look at the bed springs in the pull out couch. We thank your team for staying with us. Best Regards, Sabrina M.

Hotel denied entry to a guest checking in at midnight. Refused to refund the money despite repeated attempts to either salvage the reservation by having a third party guarantee any incidentals or repeated requests to refund the money so another stay could be booked elsewhere. Customer service is non existent, mean spirited

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review and comments. We do apologize for the inconvenience your employee encountered when checking into our hotel. Our policies do require a valid and not expired piece of photo ID, and we do stand by our policies. Upon making reservations, it does state that a valid piece of ID is required. Similarly to many other industries that will not allow entry without a valid and non-expired photo ID, our staff did put our policies in place. That being said, we would be happy to provide you with a future stay since your employee was unable to complete his stay. Once again we do thank you for your comments and we do hope we get the opportunity to serve you in the future. Best regards, Sabrina Online Content Manager

We have stayed here twice and it got worse. The first time we were offered a breakfast where we could choose juices, cereal, toast and bagels, fruit etc. now you get breakfast in a bag. No juice or cereal. Fireplace wasn't fixed when they knew it was not working. Then at check out our room was checked and deemed to be fine. When our credit card came in they charged $300 saying someone smoked or had a candle burning. Excuse me. The only hotel that doesn't allow candles that we have ever come across. NEVER AGAIN!! HOW UNROMANTIC!!

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your feedback. As you could imagine, our hotel has had to make many changes over the past year, similar to other businesses. Our hotel offers a grab-and-go breakfast with yogurt, apple, and a freshly baked muffin to our guests now as we are not allowed to have a buffet breakfast in the current climate. I hope you can understand that. In regards to candles in the rooms, there are no hotels that allow flamed candles as this could be a major fire risk for the other guests. This unfortunately is an industry-standard as we are sorry if you feel that this policy is unwarranted. Thank you for your comments and concerns. Best, Sabrina M.

Stayed 2 nights while on vacation with wife and 2 kids (6 & 3). 1st night was great, kids loved the pool, we loved the rooms. I would have given full stars if it wasnt for the 2nd night and treatment from staff and manager at check out. 2nd night we got in late and went to bed right away with plans of sleeping in, as we were leaving next day but wasnt in a rush to leave early. At 530am the smoke alarm had other plans and went off in our room jolting me wife and I out of bed thinking there was a fire and quickly getting dressed half asleep to get kids outside. Once I opened the door to the hallway I realized it wasnt the fire alarm for the building, just the smoke alarm and it was only going off in our room. I tried waving a towel at the smoke alarm but it was still going off. No one smoked in the room or had any candles going or anythinmg of that nature, there was no smell of smoke or anything. As I made my way to the phone the alarm went sielent. I called and spoke to front desk, they told me they couldn't see any thing wrong on thier monitors and its probably just chirping becasue the battaries are dead. I told her it wasnt the dead battery chirp it was going off like there was smoke for over 5 minutes but it is off now and we are going back to bed. My kids were scared as there was a tornado warning the night before so it took some time to calm them down and get them back to sleep. Once we all got back to sleep about an hour and a half since smoke alarm went off it went off again. I called front desk right away so they could here alarm. Thay said it is probably dead batteries and we will send someone up to change them. I got a chair and stood up on it so I could press the button on the alarm to silence it. A worker showed up with batteries and removed smoke alarm from cieling. There was no place to change batteries as it was one that plugs in, so worker took the smoke alarm with him back to front desk. When we checked out we asked to speak to the manager as we were not happy as our night and now day was ruined. The kids were cranky and difficult becasue of this and we had a long drive ahead of us. When speaking to the manager she made it seem as if it was our fault the alarm went off saying " These alarms are new and only go off if there is something not right going on in the room". This upset us more and told her our night was ruined and now we have a long drive ahead of us with cranky over tired kids, least you can do is comp us for the 1 night that was ruiend. It wasn't until we walked towards the exit saying we wont be staying here ever again when she agreed to comp us $35. I dont believe this was fair compensation as our night was ruiend, they should have comped us the night, if they would have I would have left a better review because up until that incident I was impressed with my stay and would have returned.

I stayed there June, 11 too june 12th 2022, we didn’t get there till later. I went into the bathroom and it smelled musty. When I noticed the black mold I went down and asked for a refund and a new room. The man at the front desk said there was no other room available and the manager wasn’t there so I couldn’t get a refund and to come down in the morning. I paid for a clean room, to sleep in for the night. If the inside the toilet had black mold and the maids and everyone else is too incompetent to notice that in a toilet who knows that the A/C units looks like inside. I went down in the morning and the manager and the other lady tried to say it was hard water. I know what hard stains look like. I have hard water at my house. They then never offered any refund or discount till I asked for one and the manager said “I can make your rate go from $189 a night to $169. $20 off. They are putting peoples heath at risk and they don’t even care. If you have any heath issues or don’t even have heath issues, please be warned there is black mold in this hotel and that’s very dangerous. If a restaurant can’t be open with black mold why should a hotel be.
I am also reporting this to the Heath unit Monday morning.

This was fine for a basic stopver, had a pool and rooms were ok, however, ours smelled quite badly of stale smoke. We addressed it with front seek and were told that housekeeping would look into it. We tried with the house keeper, she didn't speak English. We mentioned it again and our concerns were noted (I didn't want to be accused of smoking). Breakfast was a very basic continental. Guess u get what u get for the price!

The third and fourth floor. Yes they accept early ch3ck ins providing the room is ready. Call ahead and let them know they will do everything they can to get you in early.
Do not expect an apology at the front desk if your agreement is not fulfilled. The staff will get rude when pushed but don't take no or not available for an answer, should you arrive after their check in time. Our room was clean, just the staff need to be trained on proper customer service and proper communication.
