We have enjoyed a very peaceful and rejuvenating stay at Birds of a Feather! Love the name because it’s sitting right on a bird sanctuary which is a bonus for bird lovers! Hatley castle is in the picturesque view when you enter the suite. Coming in there is one flight of stairs as all the suites are upstairs but you can drive up to the entrance before parking so getting luggage up was pretty easy. Plenty of safe parking in the cul de sac.
All suites are very private and we felt very safe and happy with the Covid protocol and extra cleanliness undertaken to ensure a safe and healthy stay. I noticed staff wore gloves and masks at all times in all spaces where they would interact with guests and both the suites we stayed in were clean with fresh linens and towels.
We stayed mainly in the honeymoon suite and two nights in the Lagoon view loft suite. We found both suites very comfortable with everything you’d need for a stay supplied, The honeymoon suite felt more quite and secluded of the two.
Sitting in the hot tub is amazing with a great view, it is only available if you’re staying in the honey moon suite. We can only imagine how great this spot would be in the summer but despite the winter weather we have felt like we have been at a spa especially with the great tub and shower in the room! The honeymoon suite also has its own private deck overlooking the water.
We were concerned that we’d have enough to do with the Covid stay local restrictions but everyday we have hiked on the miles of local beach front about 8 minutes walk away and to our delight we even saw a family of 6 otters. Walking to Hatley castle is a real treat too about 15 - 20 minutes and there are also bikes and kayaks supplied if you’re feeling more adventurous.
The honeymoon suite has wrap around windows that make you feel like you’re on a cruise ship. Definitely take advantage of the beautiful view of the orange haze in the early morning as the sunrises across the lagoon and the resident heron steps up onto the deck.
The Lagoon suite also has a great side view of the lagoon from the window and a lovely treed view too. The Lagoon suite felt more spacious in the living and kitchenette area and has a great loft for families. It shares a large common deck upstairs.
We did find the wifi signal a bit in and out but managed to connect for video calls and work on it okay. When the power went out with the wind storm the back up generator kicked in immediately which was a nice bonus to be able to make our morning coffee. Don’t forget your to go breakfast muffins in the sunroom, they are absolutely delicious, freshly baked and not to be missed!
Our stay made us comfortable with the privacy and the accommodations are very well kept and Covid safety followed, so we are thrilled to be able to extend our stay for 1 month to relax and enjoy extra time at Birds of a Feather!

The perfect way to get away from it all. The real world for us consists of work, adult children and an elderly mother living with us. What better way to escape for just a few days for our anniversary than to visit this beautiful B&B.
We thought about choosing a hotel downtown and then decided to take a chance and come here instead. I'm so glad we did. The setting is bliss. Right on the water with amazing views and so private! Each room has its own entrance and the honeymoon suite came with its own private balcony and exclusive use of the hot tub the whole time we were there. The room was a good size and very clean. Due to COVID, breakfasts were provided as takeout and provided a good start to the day. My own preference might have been for a walk-in shower for two instead of having to carefully step in and out of the big clawfoot tub.
We highly recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet escape!

I discovered this beautiful B&B because I wanted to visit Hatley Castle (the location for Professor Xavier's School For Gifted Children in Xmen movies) and this was very close by, if fact, you can see it across the lagoon.
It is an absolute jewel! The rooms are a decent size, and some have little loft alcoves with extra beds for children. Trust me, they'll love them.
The price is great for families, and the homemade peach muffins at breakfast were the best we've ever tasted. They melt in your mouth. Unfortunately there was no cooked breakfast and we couldn't sit inside to eat due to Covid, so they bagged up a simple breakfast to-go with fruit, a pastry, juice and granola bars, but it was still enjoyable.
The dock is a perfect spot for breakfast or an evening glass of wine, though there are so many lovely places to sit and relax (including a hammock), that you will be spoiled for choice.
There is a nice. narrow beach along the causeway to walk (with some interesting food trucks) about a 3 min drive, or 10 mins on one of their complimentary bicycles ... or just paddle around the lagoon leisurely on their kayaks or canoes.
I just can't recommend it enough!

I booked Birds of a Feather directly through their website, while comparing with other vacation rentals I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were offering their rooms at off season rates due to Covid. No where else was doing this. I wanted to get away somewhere romantic and beautiful for my husbands birthday and this location did not disappoint. We stayed in the King suite . It was perfectly situated overlooking the ocean and even had these fantastic views from the comfy king sized bed . There was a fireplace , 2 comfy loungers , a stocked kitchen and a beautiful bathroom with plenty of special touches and amenities. Outside there is a couple of beautIful lounging areas, lots of flora , fun west coast inspired art work and even bikes, a canoe and Kayaks for guests to use .
Although this is a BnB I felt like we were in our own condo because it is all very private and quiet. The hosts were lovely but only made their presence known if we needed. We will definitely be back

This B & B is in a lovely location on the Lagoon and we were happy with the cleanliness of our suite and felt that the Covid protocols were being practiced. The Grab and Go Breakfast was also an added bonus and the hosts are very friendly. We would stay here again!

We spent a week in July 2020 after working in health care during COVID-19. We were tired & needed some quiet! We noticed that this place had generously offered a place for health care workers to stay during the lockdown and wanted to acknowledge this. Staying here was the perfect choice and we will do it again.
We stayed in Room 1 and woke early every day, walked to a nearby bakery for breakfast & sandwich meat & bread for lunch, picked early blackberries and spent the day at the beach. It was so chill and just what we needed. If you come during the pandemic, please phone ahead to ask which Nations have asked visitors to stay away. The hosts can inform you - please respect those wishes for community safety. Thanks.

This is a special B&B. The location and amenities are so wonderful. I just wish it had been summer so we could really have enjoyed all the wonderful outside ambience. The to go breakfast was great..muffins perfect! Paphada is probably the friendliest person I've ever met💖 It was very clean and we had the larger family room where you could cook if you wanted to. Will definitely try to return some day!

I had the privilege of spending two weeks at Birds of a Feather. As a front line health care worker I was seeking a spot to isolate from the rest of my family as I feared bringing home the virus from work. I could not believe the generosity of Dieter & Paphada as they were offering free stays to healthcare workers that needed to isolate. This was truly an act of kindness and compassion, and sets an example of what community means. The location could not have been more perfect; quiet, near grocery stores, restaurants and overlooks the ocean. The unit was spotless and had all the necessities for cooking. Complementary bikes, kayaks, canoe and hot tub makes it the perfect getaway for any occasion. I could not recommend this place enough and will be back. Thank you for the wonderful stay that made this hard time a little easier, we are all in this together! April 2020

I was lucky enough to stay at this beautiful bed and breakfast for a number of weeks. The owners graciously opened their doors and donated rooms to first responders needing to isolate from their families. They have beautiful rooms and accommodations. It is located minutes from any store you could need and is walking distance to Esquimalt lagoon. The views from your room are matched only by the generosity of the owners.

I spent a few days at Birds of a Feather to give myself an opportunity to recharge and to have a quiet place to work on my studies for my exam. Dieter and Paphada where amazing, going above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Their kindness and generosity definitely went beyond just their hospitality to myself. Whyle I was staying with them they had oppend the rest of their privet suits free of charge to front line workers needing to quorentee to keep loved ones at home safe ♡. Not to mention the views and location next to royal roads it is an ideal destination for individuals wanting to take in nature's beauty. I will most definitely be back and absolutely recommend Birds of a Feather to anyone looking for a place to stay locally or a destination to travel to. Thank you Dieter and Papada for a wonderful stay, hope to see you soon!

Sorry for the delay... just saw this ... we never had a question here before :)
Are you flying on to Vancouver or Victoria? There is public transportation all over Victoria, however, where possible we strongly recommend hiring a car otherwise you'll miss the best parts which are not directly in the city such as Butchart Gardens. These are also accessible by public transportation, however, you'll be spending a lot of your vacation on buses
Hi there, yes, I agree it's a very short drive from the (beautiful) B&B. It was quite an easy 15-20 drive, even at night, especially if you have a GPS. The B&B is in a more residential area, but the streets are pretty lit. Directly around the B&B there isn't really much to do. I recommend you drive. I hope I answered your question :)
There are more places to choose from in the Victoria area.
