I have stayed here with my friend in a separate bedroom. It’s a nice room to stay for one night or two and not more.
They have a pub downstairs and it’s really loud in the night. Was hard to sleep.

Shared bathroom/shower was okay. Could be cleaner though.

Breakfast was fine. They said hostel guests get 5$ discount but the card itself is 1.75 so the discount is not 5$😂

Anyways, we came there to spend our nights only and it was hard to sleep because the noise downstairs.
Staff and other guests are nice. Food was good. And location is convenient.

Response from TheCambie-Malones, Front Office Manager at Cambie Hostel Gastown

Thanks for leaving us a review! The bar downstairs is a great place to meet fellow travelers but can get noisy. We do offer free earplugs at the front desk to help block out the worst of the noise. Our housekeeping team clean the bathrooms twice a day but after they leave it is up to each guest to clean up after themselves. The breakfast card does include a $1.25 tip as stated on the card itself, but the discount is still good as the food is already cheap. I'm happy to hear that you had a good experience with our staff and hostel! Stay awesome!

It is a historic building, so it comes with the usual hang ups you would expect; clean but doesn't always look clean because of the age of everything, uneven floor boards, no sound proofing, no ventilation for the rooms. The latter was particularly difficult during the heat wave and the rooms were unbearable the first time we stayed. Because we had already booked a night upon our return to Vancouver before we stayed the first time, we did return when the heatwave broke and the rooms were a lot more manageable temperature then. However some fans for the summer months would go a long way.

Oreo the cat is adorable.

Really convenient location, definitely a party hostel (which I was warned about in various ways before we booked, I don't know how some reviewers were still surprised by this), pumping local nightlife, cheapest place to stay by a longshot.

Me and my girlfriend booked a 3 night stay at Cambie hostel in Vancouver. After spending the whole evening downstairs at their bar, we ordered food to be delivered to the hostel. My girlfriend grabbed the food from downstairs. The man at the front desk told her that it had to be eaten in the kitchen, my girlfriend said yes for sure. My girlfriend went back to our room with the food to grab me to go to the kitchen and the employee came into our room, screaming at us to get the food out of the room. It was super unprofessional and uncalled for. This took place may 22nd, 2022 around 145 am.

The establishment is very old and dirty. In my room one could not breath and you could hear all the noise from the bar underneath, so especially when there was a latin party going on, there was no sleep included for that night. Small and heavily used towels are provided for 5 dollars and they were out of locks. I had booked a room with 2 beds and got the upper bed, which was a single whereas the one below me was a double, which is just unfair when you book for the same price. It's a pity that they don't put any work in this hostel. The only good thing is the location. Close to city center and cruise terminal.

Room looked like it was falling apart, skirting boards coming away, peeling paint, we had trouble with the locks, couldn't get the radiator to work. Bathrooms were in a similar condition. Staff are unfriendly and unhelpful they clearly just don't care. You can't use the excuse of it being a "historic building" to avoid doing basic care and property maintenance. I have stayed in much nicer hostels in much poorer parts of the world and experienced better service and conditions. It's really a shame because the location is great.

Honestly spend your money staying at a hotel. This hostel was really quite gross - the kitchen and bathroom areas are so so dirty. The rooms are very loud due to the music blasting from the bar downstairs. This is a parry hostel even though it is not advertised as being one.

Great location and decent price for a private room (in comparison to other options in Vancouver). Very basic room, just a double bunk bed, and shared bathroom down the corridor. Bathroom wasn't great, there was nowhere to change for a shower so you either struggle in the tiny cubicle, or just get naked in the middle of the room! £70 per night feels like a lot when you think what you'd get elsewhere in the world, but Vancouver is a pricey city and if you're only planning on using the hostel as somewhere to sleep its not bad. We didn't use the shared kitchen facilities, so can't comment on them.

By far the worst hostel experience I’ve ever had and I’ve stayed in lots of different hostels over the years (Europe, Asia and South America). The place stinks and our room is filthy. I’m writing this in bed right now and there’s legitimately a bloody bogie smeared across the wall next to me. For $300 for 2 nights you’d expect better. The showers and bathrooms are gross, tiny and cramped with wet towels all over the floor. The floors look like they never get cleaned and the rooms are roasting, little to no ventilation. We found multiple hairs all over our bed and our comforter stunk.

We’ve decided to cut our losses and book somewhere else. There’s no way we’re staying another night here. Also be warned there is a massive homeless site on Hastings literally a 5 min walk down the street which doesn’t look safe if you’re walking around at night.

It has nothing to do with the pictures ! No AC in the summer. The kitchen is full of people during lunch and dinner time, so no place to eat. The building is old, need renovation. I booked for one week, checked in and then I tried to find another hostel because I didn’t see myself here for one week. I asked for a refund due to my experience, staff was nice and work with me ! I got full refund

The building is very old floors are not level. There was a cat on lvl 2 that walks all over the place but you are not allowed to let it out. That is fine. The shower has no privacy just a curtain on the outside of a glass door so anyone can open it and have a perv. It is very overpriced for what you get.
