We stayed for the month of February 2020 at Casa Anita and can't day enough good things about the staff. They were very helpful including calling restaurants for reservations and making sure at the last minute that we were expected at the restaurant. Daily maid service is available and this hotel is very clean. The views from all units are simply wonderful and each unit has its own patio area. The weather during our stay was wonderful (70s to low 80s) and we enjoyed our own outdoor space. There are many steps to access most units and there is no elevator so renters should be aware of this. This was our second stay and we hope to be back again.

This was our first trip to Casa Anita/Corona del Mar. Our room in Corona del Mar was very spacious and was Kept very clean through our stay with daily service. The kitchen was not very well equipped for cooking in the room as there were insufficient dishes for salads, very small cooking pots and containers for leftovers, etc. I ended up buying a cheese grater and left it in the room. The views from our room were breathtaking. However, because the hotel is situated right on the highway, sitting on our balcony was very noisy. Also, to add to that noise, the generator for the upper pool (which was very cold and hard to get in and out of) was extremely noisy because the door was removed and not put back on. We found the noise of this generator quite irritating when trying to visit with other people and sitting at the pool. It seemed you could never get away from noise at this hotel. The loungers by the upstairs pool are old heavy iron which are rusty and some broken and badly need to be replaced. Also, they advertise a “Margarita Party” on Wednesday nights. This did not happen on the Wednesday night we were there which was quite disappointing.
There are a lot of stairs in this complex and would not be good for people that may have mobility issues. Location is great for many good restaurants.

We stayed at Casa Anita for a week and enjoyed our time there. The accommodation is not modern as far as decor goes, and we had various little problems - a torn curtain that needed replacing, a terrible smell from the drain in the bathroom that we reported and was partially taken care of, the main lounge lighting fixture didn't work, only a container of pepper in the kitchen as far as condiments went, old towels, balcony doors were not clear but had permanent condensation inbetween the two panes of glass which gave them a misty look, and no containers for storing food. But putting these aside we had a great view from our studio, there are 2 pools on the property (one large and one more like a jacuzzi size), friendly staff, easy check-in, help with our luggage to/from our studio, and lovely cleaning ladies. The one thing prospective guests need to be aware of is that there is a considerable climb to get to studios and apartments. We were on the 3rd floor and there were 105 steps to our studio. Above us were 2 more floors!!! So this isn't a place for those who have problems walking or get short of breath easily. And carrying suitcases up and down puts considerable more strain on you. There was a reasonable amount of traffic noise as Casa Anita is situated on the busy main road heading south out of PV. There wasn't air-conditioning in our studio but we didn't need it. We had 2 ceiling fans and there was decent flow of air through the balcony doors. The location is great and was minutes walk to various restaurants, shops, hospitals, spas, and the beach. We made friends here too, which was an added bonus. We also enjoyed watching whales frolicking in the bay.

I will start by saying that I stayed in this place two years ago in the highest room. I loved it but my girlfriend hated all the stairs.

The overall experience this year was not as pleasant.

Mistake (not scam) #1 - We needed to add an extra night to attend a wedding. After booking the extra night the Manager informed us that she charged less than she should have but she would absorb the costs because it was her mistake. If she had told us the water was scheduled to be turned off the morning of the wedding, we probably would have switched hotels. (we were switching hotels the day after the wedding anyways and staying a few more nights)

Mistake (not scam) #2 - When we checked out, we were given our deposit back for the remote control. One hour after checking out, the hotel emailed us to say that they made a mistake in returning the deposit to us in cash. They should have just ripped up our credit card imprint. I emailed them right back to say that we were still in Puerto Vallarta for a few days and could return the money so they didn't have to charge my credit card. No one responded while we were still in Mexico so my credit card got charged the deposit plus all the international fees.

Mistake (not scam) #3 - During our stay the front desk called us in our room twice. On check out, they tried to charge us for these calls. The manager assured us that this was not a scam, "had our staff wanted to scam you, he would have charged $5000 pesos not the $500 pesos."

I actually really do like this hotel. If you chose to stay here just be on alert for the many mistakes (not scams).

Response from casanita_12, General Manager at Casa Anita y Corona del Mar
Responded Jan 4, 2020
Dear guest. I'm sorry that we had to turn the water off for a couple hours. We had to fix a leak in a pipe that broke. This is obviously not something we can control and we got it fixed as quickly as possible. The water was off for a few hours. Our rates changed on Dec.21, the night you extended and you were not charged the $50 usd difference because I forgot to change the rate that you had for the other nights. That was my mistake for not noticing it was the first night of the next rates so I absorbed the difference in price. You forgot some of the details about the deposit. You left an imprint of a credit card when you checked in, 5 days later you checked out and my receptionist made a mistake and gave you someone else's $500 peso cash deposit, which had the other client's name on it and you singed the other client's receipt and took the money instead of telling him he had made a mistake and that you should have gotten your credit card voucher back. After trying to call you and not being able to reach you, in his best effort to recover the cash that he had given you by mistake, that was not yours, he charged your credit card the $500 pesos, that you received in cash, and wrote you an email within 1 hour of you checking out to let you know what had happened. I'm sorry you got charged international charges on $27 dollars. Future clients, please don't accept a cash deposit with someone else's name on it if you know you left an imprint of a credit card. Also the 2 phone calls that you are claiming, which you did not pay for, and came to a total of $10 pesos (0.56 cents USD) were the 2 phone calls owing on the account of the client who's $500 pesos he gave back to you. My receptionist gave you the wrong deposit back and was looking at the wrong account which had 2 local phone calls for a total of $10 PESOS owing. You were not asked to pay $500 pesos for phone calls and have manipulated your review with missing truth about the situations. Sincerely, Sonia Semeyn General Manager

My husband and I stayed in this nice complex. Communication with Sonia was great. Our suite was just like the pictures. Very comfortable except for the couch. We had a great view of the ocean and were able to see some whales too. Kitchenette had everything that we needed. The highway noise was loud at night as well as the roosters early morning till night. Lots and lots of stairs so would not recommend for anyone with knee or foot problems. It was good exercise. Just a short walk to the beach and to downtown PV, restaurants, bars and shopping. The pools were small and one was warmer than the other. The small round one was quite noisy because the filter ran all day. It didn’t at night so I would suggest running it at night instead of the day when people are sitting around. Wednesday was Margaritaville at the little pool and we cooked our meat while Casa Anita supplied the margaritas. It was such a nice way to meet the others in the complex. We enjoyed that.

We booked 3 nights and left first thing in the morning after the 1st night, without a refund! It was better to forfeit the money then to spend another hour there. Believe all the bad reviews.
Pros: the view is decent.
Cons: Room A15
1. Sewage smell coming from the shower drain. We had to put a waste basket on top of the drain to limit the smell. We couldn't even brush our teeth in there is was so gross.
2. The bed was two lopsided twin mattresses put together with uneven hight, springs coming through and ancient linens. The bed was too old 30 years ago. Pillows old and gross. Impossible to sleep. Shameful.
3. The couch was broken. It had some random cushions from other furniture as the base cushions! Can't even sit on it let alone lay down on it.
4. ZERO internet (barely some internet near the office on the ground floor). This is 2021 and Puerto Vallarta has fast internet! On this trip, we stayed in 4 other accommodations in the area (all different styles) and they all had super fast internet. No excuse.
5. We turned in our remote control and key to get back our deposit. They said they "had no money" and we would have to return hours later to get our deposit back!
5. Staff was dismissive. The manager said her friends stayed in our room and didnt say anything was wrong. Cool story. She also refused to refund us for the remaining days, unless they rent it out again. Well guess what? We drove by the next day and saw the sliding doors open and it rented out. No refund yet! No contact! Let's see if they are true to their word, I doubt it!
6. They have a money exchange. I asked to exchange money and they simply said, "no". Amusing.
7. There is a "for sale sign" all over the hotel. They don't care about guests, they are selling this sewage dump. Dear lord, the worst hotel ever!! RUN AWAY!

Do not go there! The photos on the website look good - and the view is good. But the rambling group of rooms on the steep hillside are VERY shabby. After carrying our luggage up numerous narrow stone stairways, we were very disappointed in both of the rooms: a regular room and a "Junior Suite". The furniture and appliances were very old .
Upholstery was torn, beds were small, sagging and with stained bedspreads.
After many calls we found another place to stay, but were not refunded any of our money. My lesson in this is to view the rooms before making final payment.

I spent the winter of 2021 in the Corona del Mar penthouse. Gerardo and Ariel in the office, and Luz in housekeeping, were unbelievably accommodating, tending to my every idiosyncrasy in working remotely and living there. The groundsman, too (whose name I never learned,) sang while he worked and always had a bright smile and greeting! I really can't say enough about how pleasant these people made my stay. The best recommendation I can give is that I booked it again for next year.
It is important to understand that this complex is up the side of the mountain by about three blocks. I was fine with that because of the exercise, and the view and breeze is unmatched any lower down the mountain. I have friends who live in the center of the Romantic Zone, and they have no, or little, view. It is well worth the walk, only three blocks, and the traffic noise of the highway, to be above it all. But most importantly, it is the hospitality that will take me back.

Too Long, Didn’t Read: Would NOT stay here again. Not all rooms have AC so beware! Way too many stairs and no elevators. WiFi doesn’t work inside the rooms.

Our first room had NO AC, our view was okay but we could see other balconies and they were so close. There was no privacy. So we got lucky and paid to upgrade to a room with AC or else we probably would’ve left.

Bathrooms have “windows” which are just openings that don’t close so your privacy isn’t great. Rooms are old. Depending on your room your balcony will be in direct view and proximity of other balconies. The area is okay it’s central to the Romantic Zone and close to the beach but it’s by a road with lots of traffic so it can be dangerous to cross.

There’s better hotels in PV especially for the price.

Casa Anita offers a spectacular view of the ocean and city from every area of the hotel.
Our suite was very clean, well defined, and very comfortable. We truly enjoyed our time on the balcony as well as around the pools and sitting areas.
Staff very friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
As we have stayed here a few times now, Sonia, the manager, greets us like family....
It’s like coming home. Location is excellent. We are returning in 2021.

I don't have pets and stayed at Corona Del Mar early December. The unit was very clean, & staff come in every day to clean the place. I found the staff to be warm, welcoming and very friendly. The owners make you feel welcome, the view looking out over the Bay in Old Vallarta is beautiful and it is a short walk to the beach and a 10 min walk into town. I highly recommend booking at Casa Anita & Corona del Mar.
