This resort is like being in a lush tropical location thanks to the plants and trees they have brought in. When they showed us to our room, I might have gasped a bit. The ocean was right there and the patio area was stunning. The room featured an outdoor rain shower, a great soaking tub and fabulous bed linens.
Its quiet resort and the beach staff are attentive and responsive. The restaurants are great but could stay open a bit later or add some better options to the late night in room menu. The complimentary bikes are a great way to see the Rockefeller forrest and feel like your on your own island.
As someone who likes a great spa, this was the most outrageous spa, ever. It looked surreal in person and the photographs do not do it justice!! My massage was in my own little "house" that had its own outdoor bath tub, garden walls and a massage room that was facing a tropical oasis with a large glass wall. Superb & completely out of a dream.
We will most definitely return to this resort & it has set the bar quite a bit higher!

Our family traveled for the July 4th long weekend to escape the problems on the mainland and this could not have been a better, more perfect relaxing getaway for our family. The pool and beach service was incredible. Positivo restaurant food amazing and always the best service. Hotel is running at 50% guest capacity so you pretty much have the whole beach and resort to yourself. We had come 5 years ago and the property is every bit as brand new and spectacular as it was 5 years ago! My wife wants to move to Dorado now! Employees were so kind and welcoming.. we really had one of our best stays at any hotel ever in such a difficult time.. All employees are always wearing mask as are other guest in all public areas which is very assuring.. Employees were always disinfecting the tables and all restaurants are outside- open air.. Actually the whole resort is completely open air, from the reception to restaurants.. the only indoor place we entered the whole trip was our room.. Highest recommendation if you want a place to getaway and not have to worry about Covid19 at all.. FYI.. upon arrival in San Juan Airoprt we got our bags and through the airport in less than 10 minutes after we landed.. never been out of an airport quicker in my life.. they have the National Guard helping at the airport and they were super helpful..anyone with kids goes straight to the front of the line.. The airport in Puerto Rico is also offering free finger prick Covid test if you want them.. results take about 1 hour.. Best hotel in the Caribbean hands down!!!

The Dorado Reserve is an exquisite property. Lush and well maintained, this is an absolutely beautiful setting. Before anything else, let me say they are Covid Safe and Covid Conscious. Masks are required in any of their indoor facilities but unrestricted outdoors. All staff wear masks. The grounds are enormous, yet within the immediate room, pool, beach areas you don’t feel it’s enormity. The ocean view rooms are large and modern. The amenities are many. The open shower concept is delightful and there’s an additional outdoor shower as well as tub. Downstairs suites have a plunge pool upstairs suites have an enormous well appointed balcony. The pools are large and luxurious. Molded seats and multiple fountains overlooking the Caribbean. Pool service is, for the most part, excellent. Many nice touches include the circulating morning berry cup, morning guava ice cup, and afternoon Coco-Frio offering. The pool staff are warm and friendly. Very attentive. Pool menu is good. Not extensive. If you’re there for a week I would suggest switching it up between pool areas and restaurants. The COA breakfasts are superb. Dinner at COA is another review entirely. Negatives: I understand the industry suffering through a Covid year but when I discovered we were paying DOUBLE ( $2000/night) as opposed to the usual $1000/night, it was a bit shocking. If you booked earlier in year you lucked out at customary pricing. Now the head-scratcher. We asked the front desk and concierge 4x to have someone in reservations contact us while we were on property as we want to book a week in January 2022 for my daughter‘s 30th birthday. And we have specific room requests. In our entire six day stay nobody got back to us. And that was probably the only disappointment but I just don’t get it because that’s future business based on a very great first impression and wonderful vacation. So if anybody from management is reading this review please get in touch with us! Reservation name is Muller. You have our info.

My trip to the Ritz Carlton reserve Dorado was incredible! From the time I arrived at the airport my driver was very friendly he informed me about the island and about the history behind Dorado. When I arrived at the hotel they whisked me away on a golf cart to my beautiful ocean front room and I was welcomed by a beautiful gift basket with fruit and chocolates and a lovely letter. The room was appointed with every possible amenity from oversize flatscreen television to a fully stocked mini bar with everything you can imagine and complementary rum from the island. The bathroom was exceptional with indoor shower and a beautiful private garden with the outdoor shower not to mention a oversized bathtub. The food was superb with several offerings on the resort ranging from Japanese cuisine to American to Pam Asian and Greek. Dirado has miles and miles of manicured walkways and pathways for biking running and walking. The resort is equipped with numerous pools with views of the ocean. The amount of activities for the family or being solo is to numerous to mention. The staff as well trained and rarely miss a detail the boutique was my favorite with some of the most helpful and kind staff.

The hotel is stunning and the rooms do not disappoint. The outdoor shower, oversized tub, and private pool are all appointments that are not forgotten. Unfortunately it rained the majority of our stay which is not the hotel’s fault but made it so we could not enjoy all of the amenities of the property. Beyond the excellence in design and inclement weather, there were still several service glitches that I felt shouldn’t have happened for the over the top prices the property charges.
We arrived in the evening and had dinner reservations soon after our arrival. We requested a pick up to take us across the property to dinner to save time and stay dry (since it was raining). The pick up never came even after texting and asking about it twice, so after waiting 20 minutes we decided to dodge raindrops and go it ourselves.
Maid service was requested daily but did not come the first day and had to be re-requested twice before they came. On our welcome letter it listed some of our titanium benefits included daily fruit, but when I called to request the fruit I was charged $26 for the fruit plate. Walking on the path next to the golf course, security barreled up to us in a golf cart and told us we couldn’t walk on the path and escorted us back to our room. I never really understood why we couldn’t walk there as the security guard did not speak English but there were no signs to indicate the sidewalk was not suitable for pedestrians… pretty sure that’s what sidewalks are for!
The hotel arranged a car to the airport for us but the car never came. After waiting 45 minutes, it was discovered the staff booked the car for the wrong day. We lucked out and got an Uber and just made it (it’s extremely unreliable out there so plan to have a car), however that’s not the note you want to leave on after spending a weekend relaxing.
Lastly I would note the beach is not a sand beach but rocks. There are two small areas where they have dumped some sand on top of the rocks to make a beach setting for lounger chairs, but if you go out in the water more than a few steps you are walking on sharp rocks so keep this in mind if you are coming and planning to swim in the ocean.
Despite the above snafus, I enjoyed my stay and having some R&R, and I think the property is definitely worth visiting at least once.

I’ll begin with the exceptional service received from: David and the manager of Positivo; Hector the manager of Coa (who should be the GM of the property), the manager of Encanto, a few of the staff attending the pool including Danny, Giovanni from Spa Botanico and the embajador Andrea.
Our check in was standard, we met Raysa who we found out later was our Embajador (butler) who showed us around the property and eventually to our room.
The poor service began when we arrived to Coa for dinner. We didn’t have a reservation (we didn’t know we needed one since we were staying at The Reserve) and we were told the restaurant was booked. We were also told the other restaurants were booked and our alternative was to eat in our room. No one offered a viable solution to accommodate us and someone named Miguel Martinez who identified himself as security, told my business partner and friend that “her attitude wasn’t going to get her anywhere.” We were also told our butler was supposed to make all dinner reservations even though that hadn’t been explained to us previously. We had no idea we even had a butler.
At the same time, I was trying to see the status of the catamaran I had been trying to charter for a few weeks with Angel and hadn’t received any follow up. I was on the phone with Svevo who had no idea what was going on.
Hector Ramos from Coa ended up coming over, offered us champagne, helped us with planning our itinerary (including cabanas, spa treatments and dinner reservations)as well as getting us a table at Encanto that evening. He was the only person that assisted us.he also informed us that due to weather, boats weren’t going out for safety. Not sure why Angel nor Svevo had this information nor oases it along to me.
There were other incidents with delays in room service, bringing incorrect items and miscommunication among the staff.
We ended up extending our trip two nights due to a snow storm in NYC.
I ended up having to call the concierge for assistance one morning which ended up being Angel. At no point did he address dropping the ball about the catamaran charter we emailed about. He was providing assistance with my friend and business partner’s cell phone because it stopped working. I asked him for George, the GMs, number and he responded saying that he would pass along my contact information which directly contradicted the welcome note in the room from George.
We ended up meeting George coincidentally at the pool one afternoon and gave him ALL of the aforementioned feedback. He took screenshots of a few text conversations I’d had with the staff. He offered his apologies and said he would take care of it but never circled back with us nor checked in for the duration of the stay which was extremely disappointing.
I specifically selected The Reserve based on location, expectation of service synonymous with previous Ritz experiences and ease of travel from NYC not to mention it’s the best Puerto Rico had to offer. Had the trip gone without incident, we hoped to return and make The Reserve a frequent destination; however, we will be returning to St Barth’s going forward as our Caribbean island of choice.

Dear imperialstyle, Thank you for you review of your recent experience. I am very happy to hear that there were several of our team members that provided exceptional service. As we discussed when we met while at the resort, I apologize for the uncharacteristic service that you received from the restaurant and concierge. As promised, I have personally discussed this at length with the Ladies & Gentlemen that you interacted with and the entire team to avoid this from happening in the future. Please rest assured that we value your business and I look forward to personally welcoming you back soon to our exotic sanctuary. Warmest Regards, George M. Sotelo

What an amazing experience. I truly can not say enough positive things about this hotel. The property is tranquil, exquisite and unique. The rooms are spotless, large and include amenities like beautiful views, a large balcony, an outdoor shower, a large soaking tub, a walk in closet and a full bar. I stayed on the east side which included the outdoor lobby, our gorgeous room, a large spacious, infinity pool, which was a step down to the beach, and two main restaurants, COA and Positivo. Nothing is further than a 2-3 minute walk. The restaurants were delicious, we made reservations in advance, which our butlers Miguel and Balthazer confirmed daily through text. They were also available to assist or reach at any time. The beach/pool service was outstanding. Umbrellas were moved with the sun, water bottles and ice buckets were refreshed and drinks were kept flowing. My husband enjoyed his golf experience and had only positive things to say about it. If asked I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxury, relaxing, upscale hotel.

We came to Dorado with our 3 month old. Our stay was nothing short of magical. We booked with Amex so got a few perks (including an upgrade to a pool suite on west beach). We highly recommend the room. The plunge pool was fabulous - it was perfectly heated and shady so we could enjoy it all day with our newborn, who can’t yet wear sunscreen. At the same time I could walk to the beach, literally less than 100 feet from our door, and enjoy sunrise, sunset or just a quick dip. The beach is the prettiest I’ve ever seen (some photos attached). We spent most of the day in the pool or on the patio watching the waves leaving for sunrise and sunset to walk on the beach. Waking up to the sound of the surf was very nice - our 3 month old slept through the night 2 out of the 3 nights we were there, which was an extra special treat! I would say that this is paradise, especially for a new family that has to spend a lot of the day nursing.
Daily breakfast at Coa with a view down the beach was also spectacular, although we didn’t end up trying the other restaurants.
If I were to say anything negative it would be that the food would not be why we’d come back - breakfast was great but room service food was underwhelming and outrageously expensive. I ended up picking up a lot of salads at the market / deli restaurant (Cocina), which were delicious and satisfying at a more reasonable price than room service.

My travel agent told me this place had a "wow factor" and she was right! The setting is a tropical paradise. The rooms are stunning. The ocean is right there so you fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the waves. The beach is protected by a rock wall and wonderful for swimming. The spa is extraordinary, and worth an hour on either side of your treatment. The food is very good. Special shout out to Chef Juan at Positivo who personally made sure that I had delicious food in spite of numerous limitations on what I can eat. Just a note about children: if you have them, you will want to hang out an Encanto, the pool and the restaurant. "Club" members in addition to hotel guests use facilities there. If you want to get away from children, stick to Positivo and Coa for eating. This was especially true on the Sunday, but somewhat on an early Thursday evening as well. As for rooms, the lower ones allow direct access to the beach but are less private because a path runs in front of them (not heavily used, but a path nonetheless) and have more obstruction of the view by trees and shrubs. The upper floors just require going down a flight of steps and walking for less than two minutes to the sand, and they offer more privacy and a drop-dead view. As for activities, I recommend the night snorkel with the excellent team at Ambassadors of the Environment. Of course there were things that were less than perfect, but none of them mattered enough to detract from how wonderful this resort is.

Nobody is on the same page with COVID protocols or their facility policies. Ask three different staff members the same question and you’ll get three different responses. I went to the gym six days in a row working out in sandals with no problem and other people working out in sandals. The sixth day some staff member on his high horse tells me I can’t work out because I don’t have closed toe shoes. I can’t even relax at the beach or the pool because there are people telling you to wear a mask when walking from your car to the beach and the pool. But once you get your seat then you’re allowed to wear your mask while walking around? That makes a lot of sense... You ask one person to rent equipment and they say it’s free, the next person says it costs money or they’re not renting at this time. When you’re paying this much money for a 5 star resort they should do more to feel comfortable and get on the same page. I will not be coming back.

Dear mikebQ901ZX, Thank you for your candid review of Dorado Beach. I appreciate your view on the policies in place however, the Puerto Rican Executive Order is very detailed on when a mask should be worn. I can understand your logic and hopefully this will be something of the past in the very near future. I have also taken note of your comments regarding communication and will be addressing them with my team. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Best Regards, George M. Sotelo

The water is relatively calm as there is an extensive barrier wall, which breaks the waves. It was very windy when we were there, and we still swam every day. We plan to return with our grandson as there is an extensive sandbar area which is like an enormous kiddie pool.
The East Beach, which is about a 10 minute walk, does not have the barrier wall, and therefore the waves are quite large there. This is where we saw kite surfing.
The water was also quite warm… and we were there in January.
Enjoy!
