What a fantastic find this was for us. We (2 couples with 2 travel trailers) really didn't want to camp right beside the highway at Pancake Bay PP or Batchawana Bay PP so I dug a little deeper and found this fabulous spot. The owner, Dan Miles, was very helpful and hospitable, and the entire campground of aproximately 25 sites is just like a small community. No security, noise or misbehaving issues here. Just clean, if slightly dated, sites with friendly quiet people. Right on the shore of Lake Superior you could not ask for a better view of the lake, the Montreal River and the sunsets. The wash house facilities were basic but extremely clean and well attended. We stayed for 2 nights and will definitely be back for a longer stay in the not too distant future.

Beware of the price: They advertise the cabins are priced at either $150 or $180. (They use the word "from" in front of the dollar amount.) What they don't tell you is that they add an $80 dollar "cleaning fee." Then of course there is tax - so your $180 room is really $293.00. It's not worth $293.

Location was great - 15 mins. from Lake Superior Provincial Park visitor center on a secluded cove of Lake Superior. Cabin was comfortable, quiet and had everything we needed to cook our dinner. The biggest negative was the price. Very expensive for the quality of accommodation. We were willing to pay it for one night because of the location. We only spent one night there - our experience might not have been so great if we were there longer.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly"
The Good
Randy, the park host, is friendly, responsive, communicative, and an all around very nice guy. He is very knowledgeable about the area. Without Randy our stay here would have been a complete nightmare. The Lake Superior view was spectacular and allowed us to take beautiful pictures of the worlds largest fresh water lake and see a gorgeous sunset. The location off of the trans Canada highway at Montreal River Harbor just at the foot of the Montreal River is very good for making a day trip to Lake Superior Provincial park and the area has many great hiking trails to enjoy. A day trip to Sault Ste Marie is also doable. You do need to watch very closely when driving as the turn into Twilight Resort is very easily missed. The turn point is on a curving very steep grade and the signage approaching is very inadequate.

The Bad
Where do we start. There is a lack of good electrical service. They have 15 amp service only and it does not run anything. We needed to run an electrical extension cord into one of the buildings and even then you could not operate more than one appliance at a time. Very outdated and under serviced power. Even though the power sucked, we did have a good water and sewer connection which worked fine. The garbage disposal consisted of open 45 gallon plastic barrels, and although we didn’t encounter any, this is definitely bear country! The back-in site we had was so close with the next sites over that we could barely get our awnings out. As we could not run our air conditioner inside, we were forced to eat outside, but the lot size was just not wide enough to make this an enjoyable comfortable experience. This place is the closest that we have ever had to park next to other campers, there was zero privacy.

The Ugly
The appearance of the whole place looked derelict. Sadly, what caught our attention almost immediately was the deplorable condition of our Canadian flag which was in shreds. The buildings, lawns and garden areas were overgrown, unattended and run down looking. Nothing looked like it was cared-for. There are out buildings and cabins but they were not being maintained or tended to. This has the label of a “resort” but is nothing of the kind. The place we saw was more like a Twilight “Zone.” All of this was for a total of $96.05 per night. The new owner Kirill Shamrai (aka Kevin) obviously only cared about getting our money and is capitalizing on the parks past repute by using outdated inaccurate publicity, facebook page and suchlike. These by no means accurately represent its current state. The new owner is very unresponsive and non communicative. He required our payment in full by bank transfer up front which we found very unusual in the RV camping business but now we understand why. So he had our money and now we have no practicable means for any type of recourse. This place is no where near worth $96.05 in total per night for what we received. Silly us, we signed on because of its past reputation as a hidden gem and we stayed here for 4 nights. The new owner was pretty much impossible to reach and he was never seen on site while we were there. We would not recommend Twilight “Zone” to anyone on their holidays traveling through this beautiful area. We know that when we go back through this area again we will try anywhere else in the area but definitely not here again!
