Central Station represents a bridge towards the future. Impressive skyscrapers and new age buildings stretch the skyline with the majestic Unicredit Tower cutting through. Surrounding it are large towers that define Piazza Gae Aulenti, where the fountain and the Monumento Trombe leave one breathless. A famous building of the district is the Vertical Forest, where the innovative materials and trees planted on the terraces are a unique mix of nature and man-made construction. In the district, there is the Monumental Cemetery, known for its antique tombs with sculptures portraying angels of commemorative scenes many will find touching.

- BowmanSydney17 contributionsA very good hotel in Seminyak. The hotel was above expectations and was very clean with a very good bed. It also had a great rooftop pool and bar. The staff were excellent from the manager to the cleaners. Nothing was too much trouble for them when a request was made. The Meja Restaurant was also very good with excellent staff. Will definitely miss the lychee martinis.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten July 24, 2023

From here you can go anywhere in Italy and also to neighboring countries on fast trains. This station is like a museum. You can come here to just walk around the station and enjoy the architecture, sit in a cafe and go shopping.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten September 17, 2023
- sigalgolanWellington, New Zealand42 contributionsHard to rate, beautiful but easy to get lostWe went through the station twice. Both times we found it very difficult to navigate, especially dragging luggage and occassionally having to backtrack because the signage was so poor. We really had to ask people often about where we were trying to go. But if you have the time, it's a nice place to get lost in maybe to stay out of the rain.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 22, 2023

It is also the most immense and gorgeously styled buiding. As a total vanity project by Mussolini it has left a stunning looking building.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023

- Bill MArizona297 contributionsGreat central locationAfter arriving in Milan-Malpensa and clearing the maze of shops, hallways, ID checks, and personal and baggage inspections we tried to find the train to Milan Centrale and finally decided to take the bus (10 euro each). 30 minutes later we arrived at the railroad station and the large plaza in front of it. We used the high speed trains to go to Firenze Santo Maria Novella, and to the Venezia Santa Lucia stations. The Milan Centrale station is large, has a ton of shopping area, and connects to the city's Metro (subway) services. It is central to the Last Supper and many other attractions, and there are several hotels (we stayed at the Glam) and restaurants within easy walking distance. But, like the other stations we were at, there is a lack of public seating and this can become a problem for someone that is classified as handicapped or a Senior, or has pets or children with him or her. There is a large plaza in front of the station, and to the Northeastern side there is a boarding / drop off area for dozens of Tour Buses. The buses though may not like the location as to get to the main highways is a chore as each has to go through narrow and congested streets for several minutes.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 29, 2023
- Herbert C1,513 contributionsChoo choo-ing with convenient and comfortable connectivityAs the central train hub of Milan, the area around Milano Centrale is probably the best to stay during your Milan trip for ease of travelling to/from other Italian or European cities, within Milan via its efficient Metro network, or to/from the airport via the Malpensa Express. Outwardly, the Art Deco building may not be as impressive as other European cities’ central train station, but its interior does give you the wow factor with its majestically high ceilings and intricately decorated walls and columns. As with any busy hub, one would expect some level of chaotic and frenetic activities in the station, but it is surprisingly easily navigable, and despite comments about pickpockets and muggers, we did not encounter any such incidences and felt safe throughout our time spent in the station. There are many cafe and trattoria within the station and its vicinity, which provides convenience in filling your stomach or simply getting a cuppa before boarding your train. Connectivity, convenience, comfort…. you can choo-choo your way to a memorable Milan experience.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten January 9, 2024
- RazorfishLittle Rock, Arkansas5,259 contributionsMilano Centrale is the largest train station in size in Europe and second busiest next to ParisMilano Centrale is a good train station to use when traveling through northern Italy. My wife and I arrived at the Milan Airport to start our wedding anniversary trip this past August. We took the express into Milano Centrale to catch the train to Zurich. We had time for a coffee in one of the shops before catching our train. The boards were easy to read and we easily made it to our platform in time for our departure. The station was designed by Mussolini but does not contain the brutalist that much of his architecture is known for. It is the largest in size of all train stations in Europe and the second busiest next to Paris. We found the station easy and convenient to use.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten January 17, 2024

We arrived to Milan from Milan Malpensa Airport via the Malpensa Express train. That was very efficient and easy to navigate. Upon arrival, we could tell this is one busy and well used train station! We hailed a taxi to go to our hotel. The process was orderly and easy.
Since we would be traveling out of Milan from this train station, we invested an hour or so to get familiar with the station. From the Trenord ticket office, the platforms and tracks, and the wonderful food court on the lower level. Plenty of tables and seats.
So many food options, you will find what you love for sure. One huge tip: at the end of the food court/hall, there is a FREE and clean bathroom facility for men/women. We used it several times without having to pay the $1 euro. Super clean and lots of stalls. Well maintained.
It is true that on our regional leg of the journey, tickets have to be validated at the green validation machine. Be sure to do this early otherwise the crowds will be impossible. You can also validate the tickets at the Trenord office downstairs. We found the Trenord ticket office staff to be very helpful. They are all English spoken. On our Frecciarossa high speed train travels, no validation is necessary as we got assigned seats.
As for watching out for your belonging, that is just common sense. Yes, definitely beware of your surrounding just like in any big cities. The Milan Metro comes right to this station, that made travel from the city center to the train station super easy. There are also a massive complex of stores, cafes, restaurants adjacent to the station. It was worth our time to get our bearings to eliminate last minute confusions.

The train station is huge. It’s chaotic and busy. You are told by locals to be careful for theft and pickpocketing. They are not kidding. We witnessed people being arrested by police because of theft.
The bathrooms are 1€ per person. Be prepared to pay with a 1€ coin in the machine.
There is a luggage storage inside the station called kibag. We checked in our bags and headed to Florence for a few days.
The gelato inside the terminal was refreshing!

The station provides trains to just about every destination in Europe. The place is huge, ornate and as mentioned by others, chaotic with people moving across each others path in random patterns. Our technique was to look ahead, plot a course and push ahead.
It helps if you are familiar with the three levels and access to the street level. Before our departure day we visited the station and learned where our train would be and how to get to it from the station's entrance. The next day we arrived like locals and after reading the departure board knew exactly how to get to our train.
Signage is OK for the basics, taxis, metro and exit. There are train representatives in green or red uniforms to help but not many.
Ticket machines are scattered about and mainly located on the first level. There are instructions in several languages. The process was easy. For purchasing tickets that day we found the machine tickets were a few euros cheaper than on line.
If you can plan ahead we found we saved quite a lot buying the tickets two months early on line. In some cases we upgraded to 1st or business class for just a few euros more when buying a few months in advance

Used Milan Centrale a few times on our visit and we stayed right across the road from it.
It’s a gorgeous beautiful old building however as a passenger it’s a bit of a nightmare.
Not enough signage, if you are there at their busy times be prepared for people just everywhere there is no barrier style queuing to help seperate people going in and out, with small children it was just very stressful!
Also using regional trains some tickets have to be validated before getting on the train… for thousands of passengers one validating machine per platform.

SUPER busy, gigantic train station in Milan. We had no trouble finding our platform thanks to the numerous boards. Many cafes and shops on site to grab a bite while you wait. Currency exchange also but they will gouge you. Trains arrived and departed promptly. I recommend purchasing tickets online ahead of time, especially of you are traveling with a large group, luggage, etc. We had no issue with thieves but took common sense precautions.

The station in Milan is beautiful architecturally but a nightmare to navigate. Staff are not great found them rude and unhelpful. Signage is a nightmare. After stepping off our train from the airport we had no idea where to go. Scammers and pickpockets are everywhere in the airport so you have to keep your wits about you. Milan is probably my list favourite city. It is very dirty and the graffiti makes it look run down. Crossing the road, well the cars don’t stop and the constant honking of car horns is incessant. People bump into you without apologising and good luck finding a public restroom. I tried to go into McDonald’s in Milan to use the facilities and was told I had to buy food. A guy in a black suit literally standing at the bottom of the stairs not allowing you to use the toilet unless you had a tray of food! . Finally found a toilet at the Duomo which cost 2.00 euros . You have to buy something in a cafe to use the toilet or a museum or art gallery. I have been to Italy many times but if I had come to Milan first I might not have returned to Italy. Milan is a great base to see other places like Verona and Lake Como but it is over priced and too busy. If you have a chance to go to Florence or Rome I would definitely make that choice over Milan. Having been to Vienna last year which is a beautifully clean city Milan looked grubby.

This place is pretty big and chaotic and takes some getting used to. There are multiple entrances and a few floors, restaurants and shopping as one would expect. There is generally NOT a lot of seating, even in restaurants. There is ample security around but one should be careful anyway.

In a few short years this magnificent railway station will be 100 years old.
From any angle outside, the building is mammoth. The best photos are from the mammoth Plaza Duca d'Aosta, with heritage trams adding to the atmosphere.
With 24 platforms, the railway facilities are immense, and thankfully well used.
The glass and steel arched roof makes for beautiful photographs.
Train information is adequate. The grand staircases are terrific.
The station is complex to navigate. I had to use it a couple of times prior to becoming even slightly familiar with it.
Strangely tickets for Trennord's Malpensa Airport Express train (the best way to reach the airport) can only be purchased from a ticket machine on platform 3, which is quite a walk from the commencement of most of the platforms. Travelators to reach it or the main station 'paid' entrance would be good but there isn't the space adjacent to platforms to install these.
As expected in Europe, there is shopping and dining on multiple levels. Travelators assist in conveying patrons (though not to/from Malpensa Airport Express.
The biggest secret must be the supermarket in the basement. This is a great way to save money. It even has a fair range of Italian chocolates, ideal as gifts as they are not bulky.
The excellent Milan Metro is easily reached downstairs.
On two sides, there are trams outside the station.
There is also an excellent row of restaurants ('Mercato Centrale') at the other end of the station, adjacent to where airport buses arrive and depart. Stalls sell seafood, pizza, baguettes, alcohol, desserts - the range is immense, and the displays prepared by what advertising calls 'artisans' are most attractive. I enjoyed a meal here: it was challenging to find a vacant table but after a five minute wait one became available.

Suuuuuuper packed and hard to move around. I understand this is the nature of train stations, but when leaving London, their system was far more organized and less stressful.

Mi conviene stare da sola di notte dentro la stazione aspettando il treno della mattina dopo??

To take the train from this station to Malpensa airport, advisable to buy tickets in advance? And, approximate time to allow, our flights depart around 10 a.m. on a week day in early October.

From Central Station to Malpensa Airport :
about 1 h by train and 1 h 30 m by shuttle or bus
I 's possible to buy the tickets in advance for the train
About bus I think YES, but you can buy the ticket from the bus driver easily
