What is the program?
Building on Read Alliance’s Teen Leadership Program, READ has established a post-secondary pipeline to college and careers in education for Teen Leaders.
A Multi-faceted approach
High School Experience
Career Exploration: Opportunities for career exploration through workshops and networking with professionals (including Read Alliance alumni).
Earn College Credits: Earn college credits that can be applied to future studies.
Admissions Pipeline: Opportunities to tour colleges and learn about educational offerings; READ’s partnership with colleges ensures that Teen Leaders are completing their applications and have an opportunity to maximize the financial aid they may receive.
Post-Secondary Experience
College Transition Support: One-on-one advising, cohorting, and summer bridge opportunities for Teen Leaders matriculating to college.
Classroom Experience: Hands-on experience and an opportunity to continue working with students through college.
Pipeline to Credentials: Support towards earning relevant credentials through community workshops and participation in college support programs.
Timeline
9-10th grade
Focus on getting experience in the classroom with Read Alliance, career exploration, college awareness, identifying interests and values, etc.
11th grade
Official entry into Education Pathways Program: Career-connected relationships with colleges + professionals, earn first three college credits, begin building personal statement.
12th grade
More opportunities for workshops and seminars with educators and about education as a career-path; apply to college (e.g. with Bottom Line); engage as an ambassador for CollegeNow.
College
Continued connections for alumni to and through college (with a focus on education pathways within partner institutions), connections with postsecondary education and career opportunities.
What’s the Goal?
Teen Leaders understand the pathways to become educators and have the skills, resources, and networks to do so.
Teen Leaders improve college readiness and comfort, empowering them towards their education and career goals.
Teen Leaders attend and graduate from affordable colleges and are prepared for either teacher training fellowships or graduate programs.
