I firmly believe in the healing power of relationship and I strive to nurture my clients’ connection to loved ones and significant others. I believe that positive change starts with healthy individuals who then form healthy relationships and establish positive child-parent connections. These relationships give rise to healthy families and thriving communities. To me, empathy and compassion are at the heart of healthy connection and by creating a space for these qualities to flourish, we take the first steps toward healing.

Feeling distant from your spouse? Fighting with your teen? Struggling with anger, anxiety, depression, or addiction? Experienced trauma? I work with a variety of clients, but particularly enjoy problems in which clients that have felt misunderstood or mistreated. This includes working with adolescents, parent-teen conflict, relationship difficulties in both individuals and couples, addictions, anger or anxiety management, trauma, and Borderline Personality Disorder. In many of the clients I see, fear and confusion are often barriers to a satisfying life. Healing often comes through gaining confidence in areas one can control.

If you are struggling to cope with anger, addictions, identity, interpersonal and relationship issues or grief and loss, I provide an environment that is safe to be vulnerable and honest.
I work with adults and youth from diverse backgrounds who are faced with a variety of mental health and social concerns. Specifically, I specialize in the social-emotional issues of trauma, depression and anxiety. Life can already be challenging, but worry, stress, fear, doubt, guilt, sadness, frustration, or disappointment, well... that makes it rough. It is my belief that we have the resources to effectively manage the challenges that we are confronted by. We might just need a reminder about what those strengths and skills are. And it couldn't hurt to learn a new technique or two to improve our wellness.

I am passionate about issues surrounding neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and anger management.
For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about connecting with and supporting people in any way that I can. When I started my journey as an undergraduate student, I became even more compelled to learn about the human experience and all that comes with it. Having this opportunity to continue my learning in psychological theories and the complexities involved in each of our unique experiences led me to pursuing my graduate degree in counselling psychology and a career in mental health.

I specialize in working with clients struggling with anger, anxiety, sexual/intimacy concerns, and trauma.
Hello! I am Jilynne, a radically honest therapist who appreciates humor and swearing (if you're into that). My primary goal in the early stages is to create a space that feels incredibly safe for you. So many people feel stuck and don't know how to move forward. I can help you look at things from many perspectives (emotional wounds in childhood, harmful thinking patterns, major life changes, and more) so that you no longer feel at a crossroads in life.

Whether you are hoping to address issues related to your career, your family, or your relationships, or you wish to overcome problems like depression, anxiety, stress management, or grief, I do my best to provide a non-judgemental space for people to work on those issues. I also provide formal assessment services, if you would like to achieve a better understanding of your issues. Finally, some of my clients also need support in managing behaviours that place them (or could place them) in conflict with the law, such as issues related to anger, violence or sexual behaviours.

I am experienced in helping people heal from their trauma and address behaviours that interfere with a persons’ quality of life. I do this with a sense of curiosity, and an understanding that survivors have had to adapt to overcome and cope with unthinkable circumstances. Although this is an area of interest, I also have experience helping people with a variety of challenges such as anger, paranoia, depression, and anxiety. I am open to discussing your specific needs to determine if I am the right fit for you.

Anger Management Counsellors
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
