Applying for financial aid is an important and necessary part of the college application process. Fortunately, you can complete the process in a few easy steps.

To be considered for need-based aid, you must file all financial aid applications on time.

The majority of undergraduate students who apply for financial aid receive need-based aid.

Tax Information and Income Verification

Submitting copies of your tax returns or other family financial records to the Office of Financial Aid isn’t necessary unless they are specifically requested.

These documents could be requested or needed for reasons that include:

  • Your financial aid application being selected by NYU for CSS Profile Verification. You will be notified if this is necessary. If selected, your financial aid application will not be considered complete unless you have submitted the required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Your FAFSA being chosen by the U.S. Department of Education for FAFSA Verification. You will be notified if this is necessary. The FAFSA verification process can happen at any time of the year. Failure to provide tax documents could result in your federal financial aid being revoked. Following the verification process, your financial aid package could be adjusted based on any updates to your federal financial aid eligibility.
  • An unusual financial circumstance that may increase your financial aid eligibility. In this case, contact us after you have received your financial aid package.
