The 77th Tony Awards will be held June 16, 2024.

NYU alumni and faculty won the top awards—including Best New Musical, Best New Play, Best Revival of a Musical, and Best Revival of a Play—at the 2024 Tony Awards on June 16.

Members of the NYU community won for Stereophonic, named Best New Play, and The Outsiders, named Best New Musical, as well Merrily We Roll Along and Appropriate, winners of the Best Revival of a Musical and Best Revival of a Play.

Among the winners were adjunct faculty David Adjmi, who wrote Stereophonic, and alumni Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, who wrote Appropriate.  Alumna Shaina Taub was honored with two, for both her book and score for Suffs. Others won for their costume, lighting, and scenic designs.

The winners were among the more than 70 nominations for NYU faculty and alumni announced in May.  NYU Nominees for the 77th annual awards honoring the best of Broadway also included the writer of Hell’s Kitchen, among the most recognized productions. Several designers were nominated for multiple shows.

NYU community members were nominated in 16 categories that span performances, lighting, scenic and costume design, composition and orchestration. A production must have opened between April 28, 2023 and April 25, 2024 to be eligible for the awards.

The awards were hosted by Ariana DeBose and held at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. NYU winners are listed in bold below. A complete list of nominations and winners  is available here.
