Winners include Susan-Lori Parks, writer of the Best Revival of a Play, "Topdog/Underdog," and the producers of Best Play, "Leopoldstadt," and Best Revival of a Musical, "Parade."
Thirteen New York University alumni and faculty won Tony Awards last night, including the coveted honors for Best Play, Best Revival of a Play and Best Revival of a Musical. The 76th annual awards, recognizing excellence in producing, writing, acting, and design, were presented by the Broadway League at the United Palace.
Hosted by Ariana DeBose, the celebration was unscripted because of the ongoing screenwriters’ strike. Almost 40 NYU alumni and faculty from seven schools received nominations in 15 categories.
Leopoldstadt, produced by three alumni, won Best New Play, while Topdog/Underdog, written by faculty member Susan-Lori Parks, won Best Revival of a Play. Best Revival of a Musical went to Parade, produced by three alumni.
The American Theatre Wing’s Annual Antoinette Perry “Tony” Awards® honor excellence on Broadway in 26 competitive categories.
