What to expect
Polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern time. In the 2023 gubernatorial primaries, first votes were reported 21 minutes later, and the last update of the night was at 1:30 a.m. Eastern time with 96 percent of votes reported.
Voters do not register by party, but they must participate in only one party’s primary election. Mississippi is holding presidential primaries on Tuesday as well as its state primary, which will include races for state and congressional offices.
