Fraupow Wearable Breast Pump Review: "Comfy, compact and efficient"

The wearable breast pump market has blown up in recent years, and one of the most popular names we hear mentioned on the Mumsnet boards is the award-winning Fraupow Wearable Hands-Free pump. We put it to the test with mum-of-two Anna.

How we tested the Fraupow breast pump

Mum of two Anna tested out the Fraupow wearable breast pump (single version) over a period of four weeks with her newborn baby son. During this time she pumped twice a day, taking detailed notes on the Fraupow's efficiency, ease of use, comfort and discretion. She then provided an overall opinion on the Fraupow, including how it compared to other electric breast pumps she has tried in the past.

First impressions of the Fraupow Breast Pump

'The pump comes with a carry bag,' explained Anna, 'along with instructions, a charger and a bar strap extender.'

The Fraupow pump came already assembled which was handy as I could see what it was supposed to look like when put back together. I had no trouble at all setting it up for the first time!

How easy is the breast pump to use first time?

'The pump comes with instructions and a QR code which takes you to 'help' videos - these were very handy when trying to work out the different settings.'

How comfortable is the Fraupow?

Fraupow Wearable Breast Pump

I found the pump very comfortable! It fits perfectly and works effectively. You have to make sure the pump is fitted together properly otherwise there can be some leakage. I can sit comfortably while using the pump, you don't have to lean forward to collect milk. However, I do have to lean forward to take it off to avoid spilling from the opening.

How 'hands-free' is the Fraupow Wearable Pump?

The pump works well as hands-free - especially with the bra extender. It feels secure even when moving about, which is particularly useful when you have an older child too!

How noisy is the Fraupow pump?

'I don’t find the pump too noisy, but it also isn’t quiet. I’m not sure I would use it in a quiet office setting but if I was out and had a floaty top then I would.'

The pump is sturdy, however the flange is fairly flimsy and must be checked carefully to make sure it is all attached before use, otherwise it won’t work or will spill!

How do you clean the Fraupow breast pump?

'I clean it with soap and water and then sterilise in a microwave bag - very easy! It does fade a little after sterilising a few times but not horrendously and not beyond what you'd expect.'

Overall verdict

Anna rated the pump for its convenience, said it was light and comfortable, and held its charge well.

I previously had an electric breast pump which wasn't wearable. I much prefer this one as it is compact and easy to use while looking after my two children. I'd use it out and about, at work and would recommend it to others.

Lastly, we asked Anna to rate the Fraupow for the following:

What do Mumsnetters say about the Fraupow?

'I’ve spoken to their customer service team and they have a free midwife chat service every Friday. I’ve been double pumping exclusively with their wearable pump for 16 months now and no issues.'

-MumOfOne2307

'For my first pregnancy quite a few years ago I had a Medela pump with wires. This time I have a Fraupow hands free pump and it’s much better! It’s just nice not feeling pinned to one spot all the time.'

-CurlsLDN

'Fraupow here. Reasonably quiet and allowed me to get on with working from home and breastfeeding my daughter for one year. Wonderful wee thing, best purchase ever.'
