Jadon Sancho has been exiled from the Manchester United first-team after the forward refused to apologise to Erik ten Hag following their public bust-up, it has been claimed.

Sancho, 23, lashed out at the Dutchman on social media last week after Ten Hag implied he had been dropped from the team as a result of poor training performances. The England star branded the claims "untrue" before going on to say he had been made a "scapegoat" for too long.

The Red Devils released a statement on Thursday afternoon confirming that Sancho would be training away from his teammates until the matter is resolved.

However, a new report from The Athletic has revealed that Manchester United made that decision after Sancho refused to issue an apology to Ten Hag following talks this week.

The former Borussia Dortmund ace has now effectively been banished from first-team training and will use the same facilities as the club's academy stars. He will also not be considered for selection until the issue is resolved.

The statement issued by Manchester United on Thursday read: “Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training programme away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue.”

It emerged earlier this week that Manchester United football director John Murtough had been drafted into talks involving Sancho and Ten Hag following the incident last week. Club CEO Richard Arnold has also been involved and is being kept abreast of developments but it is Murtough who has had a prominent role in proceedings.

Sancho's banishment is the latest setback for a player who has massively underwhelmed since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund back in the summer of 2021 for a mammoth £73million transfer fee.

The forward has scored just 12 goals in all competitions since then and has fallen down the pecking order under Ten Hag. Manchester United were open to selling Sancho amid interest from Saudi Arabia prior to the Saudi transfer deadline last week but the player was reluctant to entertain the idea of plying his trade in the Saudi Pro League.

It has already been claimed that Bayern Munich and his former club, Borussia Dortmund, are plotting moves to bring Sancho back to the Bundesliga once the transfer window reopens in January.
