Peter Lye, our Executive Head of Marketing - Shipping and Safety, walking the talk and demonstrating our values of care and respect, as well as displaying visible felt leadership by dedicating his time to go onboard to engage with our seafarers. As a charterer, collaborating with the seafarers on the ground and advocating for their safety is our top priority, as we believe no one should get hurt moving our cargo. We have recently completed the first ICE CargoDocs electronic Bill of Lading (eBL) transaction for imports into Bahrain, involving the sale of iron ore pellet feed. This milestone marks a significant step in our digitalisation journey by facilitating the adoption of an end-to-end paperless solution. eBLs have the potential to make international trade flow more efficiently and at lower cost, improving the overall transparency and security of trade.

Today we mark the Day of the Seafarer, a United Nations observance day to recognise the vital contributions made by seafarers to international seaborne trade, and in keeping the world's economy afloat. How do seafarers navigate both waves and work every day? To commemorate this day, we went onboard one of our Ubuntu vessels to experience a day in the life of a seafarer, and to understand the complexities of their job and the maritime challenges. By using our dual-fueled LNG vessel, the Ubuntu Unity, to transport iron ore cargo for Bahrain Steel BSC, coupled with transacting with electronic bills of lading, we demonstrate our commitment to collaborate and to advance both our companies’ sustainability efforts. 

Why have we worked to make Quellaveco the first digital mine in Peru? Safety has always been our top priority, which is why we are using innovative technology at our remote Integrated Operations Center to collect information in real time, visualise future scenarios and operate our fleet of 30 automated mining trucks at a safe distance. This new, lower-risk approach to mining is the future, and the training we are offering at Quellaveco is creating digital mining experts who can in turn educate others around the world.
