Exciting developments in the live event industry! As Taylor Swift kicks off her sold-out stadium dates in the UK, the impact on venue regions and mobile communications is undeniable. With around 150,000 fans from 130 countries attending the concerts in Stockholm, the economic boost and demand for robust mobile coverage are clear indicators of the evolving landscape of live events. Research from Ericsson highlights the significant growth in data usage at arena venues, emphasizing the need for high-performance, reliable mobile coverage to meet fans' expectations. The projected increase in the smart stadium market from €13.1bn in 2023 to €31.7bn by 2028 underscores the lucrative opportunities for service providers to enhance networks and ensure seamless connectivity for subscribers. Notably, the influence of the 5G experience in critical locations like stadiums and arenas is shaping consumer decisions, with fans facing connectivity issues being three times more likely to switch service providers within six months. This underscores the importance of delivering an exceptional mobile experience in live event settings. The impact of improved connectivity extends beyond fans, benefiting stakeholders across the stadium ecosystem, including infrastructure managers, sports teams, athletes, and consumer services. The potential for 5G to transform live events into richer fan experiences is evident, as demonstrated by the successful roll-out of 5G connectivity at the National Arena Stockholm by local operator Tele2. It's fascinating to see how the demand for high-performance, reliable mobile coverage is driving innovation in the industry. How do you think advancements in mobile technology will continue to shape the live event experience for fans and stakeholders in the future? Many years ago I had the privilege to work on the Advanced Intelligent Network in the States. At the time we had a dream: to build the "windows platform" for telco, i.e., exposing a Service Creation Environment that could make everyone a telco service creator. That didn't happen for a number of reasons. Now with standardized network APIs it is becoming a reality. There is no question that APIs are innovation and rapid growth enablers. This is why I feel so excited for #Ericsson's partnership with Deutsche Telekom to offer communications and network APIs to developers and enterprises. Powered by #Vonage and #5G capabilities, I can only imagine the innovative, groundbreaking revenue streams this global platform will open. We are true pioneers! Together with Vodafone we have shown how it is possible to super-charge the cloud gaming experience with 5G Network Slicing 🏎 5G Standalone networks have the power to offer a customised connectivity experience through network slicing - and we wanted to showcase the experience for gamers in a live network trial with Vodafone. Together, we offered gaming enthusiasts the chance to test out 5G Standalone cloud gaming using a dedicated 5G network slice at Coventry University. With a significant increase in throughput, ultra low latency and less jitter, as well as smoother graphics rendering, the trial gave consumers a glimpse into what the future of gaming looks like. 88% of gamers on a 5G Standalone network slice ranked cloud gaming at least an 8/10, compared with just 13% who played using non-optimised connectivity, confirming that an optimised 5G Standalone network slice materially enhanced the gaming experience.
