The war in Gaza we are watching is just part of the staging for the BIG event. Russia has been on deck to mount a future invasion of Israel from the time of Ezekiel 2,600 years ago writing down God's Word from ancient Babylon. The inexorable grind of the prophetic gears continues unstoppably to this moment. WATCH GAZA--but keep your eye on JERUSALEM. That's the REAL target that Satan will never stop until he ravages it at the END. Jerusalem is God’s Countdown Clock for Humanity’s Survival When Jesus told His disciples and us about the future he built every word of it around one spot on earth. In theological circles, this message (Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21) is called the Olivet Discourse. Jesus framed His words about the rest of the history of this planet by the sight of Jerusalem in all its earthly glory spread in front of Him. Look again at Christ's very first words in Matthew 24:2. All that He says about His second coming is introduced by those words. He said to keep your eye on Jerusalem. I am ascending from the Mount of Olives (the center of Jerusalem then and now) and I am returning to the Mount of Olives. That is why understanding God’s plans for Jerusalem is key to interpreting God's Word correctly. Where do all the advanced civilization's mysterious accomplishments come from? The Minoan's advanced navigation and building skills, the Egyptian's pyramid engineering, and even all those astronomical circles and amazing calculations archaeologists are constantly unearthing? Did they have contact with alien intelligence? Does the Bible allow for other worlds, advanced civilizations, and super-powerful aliens that can do amazing things? Yes, but the Bible classifies ALL of the life on other planets as being angelic, either rebellious to the Almighty God or loyal to Him. THE FINAL GENERATION-- IS THE ONLY GENERATION IN HISTORY TO SEE WHAT JESUS DESCRIBED IN MATTHEW 24 Teaching these young believers why the Early Church LOVED the Book of Revelation is a joy. They saw everything in one place: God's Attributes were Illustrated, and Christ's Power was vividly portrayed. God wanted His Church to know the plan, so He sent it as the conclusion to the Bible. That is what we have today. Open with me to the only book exclusively devoted to introducing us to what our Master and Savior Jesus is doing RIGHT NOW: the last book of the Bible, the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Have you paused yet today to check in with Jesus Christ? The best way to do that is through your Bible because Jesus Christ is revealed to us as the Word of God. He is the Word, and the Word reveals Him. Each time we open God’s Word, we can hear His Voice. At Creation, God the Son, the Creator, spoke and made all things, and through His Apostles and Prophets, His Word has been given. As you open the last book of your Bible, you are entering the climactic conclusion of God's Word written down for us. The first word in the Greek New Testament text of Revelation is the word apocalupsis, which can be translated as either “revelation” or “unveiling”. The next two words are Jesus Christ. That means in this last book, we are: Getting to See The Real Jesus: So we are opened to the “revelation of Jesus Christ”, or the “taking the cover off of Jesus Christ”, or the “disclosure of Jesus Christ”, or the “manifestation of Jesus Christ”, or the “unveiling of Jesus Christ” the Word of God. There is so much to think about as we open to these Last Words of Christ, God's Word. Revelation completes God’s revelation of Himself to humanity through Christ. In Genesis, the Creator, God the Son, walks and talks with Adam and Eve, the first two humans to ever exist, created at God's hand. But God does not stay walking and talking to them. Because they sinned, He banished them from the Paradise He made for them. Thus began all the sorrows and woes that have plagued humanity for thousands of years. But in the book of Revelation, the Creator explains that He is back, actively walking on Earth again, among His people. The Book of Revelation explains that God the Son, Jesus Christ the Creator, is on the ground guiding His Church to accomplish His purposes in the world. Much like a coach on the floor with his team, Jesus Christ walks around and watches us play the positions He gave us. That is perhaps the most arresting truth in all the Bible for us. We are not alone. The Coach Himself, our Creator, personally wants to help us accomplish what He desires us to do. Do you know if you are “in” yet? Are you assured of eternal life? Who is really going to Heaven? Those may well be the most urgent question of our earthly existence. We live in a religious world that is, by and large, made up of multitudes who are either unconcerned or misguided as to their eternal soul. The only guidebook to Heaven is God’s Word. The only Guide is God’s Son, who died on the Roman Cross as a Sacrificial Substitute for sin. What TRIGGERS World War III? One amazing element is forming before our eyes. The study and teaching of prophecy aren’t supposed to be an intellectual pursuit of their own. The point isn’t to memorize all the seals and bowls and trumpets in the book of Revelation…. set dates and times regarding the Rapture…. or get into pointless and contentious arguments over the timing and sequence of End Times events. Rather, God gave us prophecy to motivate and mobilize the Church to live lives of holiness….and preach the Gospel to all nations before He comes…and make disciples of all nations before He returns. One day in the not-too-distant future, we will watch as Jesus Christ sorts our life into what lasts forever and what doesn’t. The Near-Extinction of Christianity: The closest Christianity came to being wiped out was during the reign of the emperor Diocletian. He administratively went through the empire and found an anomaly, a group of people that didn’t behave as they were supposed to. They didn’t worship the emperor like everyone else, they didn’t visit the pagan temples and engage in sexual immorality, and they didn’t sacrifice to the Greek pantheon of gods that so dominated the way of life. They were anomalies, and so Diocletian decided to get rid of them. First, he found the meeting places where the church gathered and tore them down. Then he went in and arrested the Christian leaders, killing every one of them he could find. Then, he searched for and destroyed every copy of the Scriptures he could find, so not a single complete copy survived before the fourth century. Diocletian came closer to exterminating Christianity than any other emperor, and there were at least thirty of them who tried. This was just beginning when John was writing down the Revelation of Jesus Christ, and in the midst of this persecution, the struggling believers at Smyrna received a letter from Jesus. “The Woman who would not turn back” The book of Ruth opens during the period of the Judges when apostasy, decadence, violence, anarchy, and warfare were the norm. Famine strikes Bethlehem, which means a house of bread. In this time of need, Elimelech, whose name means my God is King, seems to depart from God's plan and desires. He takes Naomi, which means pleasantness and favor, away from the land of promise and the covenant people of God into the land of Israel’s enemies, Moab. With them go their two sons, Mahlon, which means joy or song, and Chilion, which means ornament or perfection. These men seem to have stepped out of the revealed will of God in His Word by marrying pagan, gentile women of God’s enemies. Away from the land of promise in Moab [descendants of Lot who worshiped Chemosh a god of human sacrifice by burning], Elimelech [my God is King] dies and so does Mahlon [joyful song] and Chilion [ornament of perfection]. After ten years of hardship, Naomi [pleasant sweetness] becomes Mara [bitterness]. With all those she ever loved buried beneath the sod of Moab [her husband and two sons]. She finally looks back at the land of promise because food is available in Bethlehem. As she sets off to return home, she asks her daughters-in-law to return to their families and find a new life. In one of the most touching moments of the Scriptures, Ruth [satisfied, fullness] clings to Naomi and the God of Israel. Orpah [stiff-necked, double-minded] departs for her people in Moab. The two main sources of extra-biblical history in this period are the widely respected references Encyclopaedia Judaica and the Jewish Encyclopedia. Both record the historical note that Orpah and Ruth were descendants of Eglon, King of Moab. When Orpah left Naomi, she forsook the God of Israel, embraced the gods of Moab, married and bore a child, and from her descendants came Harafu, the mother of the four Philistine giants, one who was named Goliath. It is fascinating that David, Ruth’s grandson, met and destroyed Goliath, Orpah’s grandson. The result is a simple turn in the path of life. What an incredible difference small decisions make.
