One of the problems in the lives of many people is Criticism. It is also a struggle for Christians. Often the criticism is a way of trying to lift oneself up by tearing another down. We often in our criticism cause division and the criticism is more opinion than actual facts. We often hear what we want and never take the time to talk with those with whom we disagree. Possessing a critical spirit is wrong because it carries with it a sense of pride and superiority (Luke 18:14). Also, it is often a cover up for my own heart issues (Jeremiah 17:9). 1. Criticism will hinder our relationship with other people. Proverbs tells us that “…grievous words will stir up anger” 2. Criticism will hurt each of us as well as other people. In Matthew’s gospel we are asked the question about the small thing in our brother’s eye while there is a log or beam in our eye. So often this is really the case. If I spend time taking care of my own issues, I don’t have time to look at others. When I have a critical spirit toward others it causes pride to come into my life and then following the pride will be shame when I come to grips with what I have done. 3. Criticism will hurt my relationship with God If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:—Psalm 66:18 4.Criticism will stop God’s blessing in my life. He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.—Proverbs 28:13 A critical spirit will hurt every relationship in our lives. So as the Psalmist ask the Lord in Psalm 139 “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” Once He searched then we need to confess and then forsake which means we will change our thinking. I encourage you to day to pray for the person for whom you have a critical spirit. You cannot maintain a critical spirit toward someone you really get serious about praying for. I have found over the years that if you struggle with someone; praying for them will help a one’s attitude toward that person. With the shape our country is in, the only hope is God! The local Church is how God has chosen to reach the world but that local church must get outside the 4 walls to make an impact. In order to do that as a church family, the local church must deal with “Criticism” and that begins with each individual dealing with their own issue.

June 10, 2024 Inerrancy According to Christ “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:18) Here is the commentary of the Lord Jesus on the doctrine of plenary verbal inspiration. Not only were the words of the Bible divinely inspired, but even the very letters! The “jot” was the smallest letter of the Hebrew alphabet (yod, the tenth letter). The “tittle” was a small, horn-like appendage that transformed one Hebrew letter into another. Thus, a stronger statement of absolute verbal inspiration than this could hardly be imagined. Further, the phrase “in no wise” is actually a double negative in Greek. In New Testament Greek it was used for strong emphasis. According to none other than the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, every word—even every letter—of the “law” must be fulfilled. This certainly includes the books of the Pentateuch—including even the often-maligned and distorted opening chapters of Genesis! He applied the same principle to other parts of Scripture as well. “The scripture cannot be broken,” He said (John 10:35) in the course of an exposition of Psalm 82:6, based on one single word used in the verse, supporting the vital doctrine of His own deity. It is clear that Christ taught the doctrine of full, verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. It is sad and inexcusable that so many today who call themselves Christians repudiate this vital teaching of the Lord Jesus by rejecting, diluting, or “interpreting” the plain statements of the Word of God. And lest anyone equivocate by suggesting that, since the original writings have all been lost, we no longer can know what the divinely given words may have been, we should remember Christ’s promise: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35). Luke 9:23 Unfortunately, some Christians are under the delusion that there must be some short cut to Heaven. You cannot escape the Christian rudiments and go to Heaven. You cannot escape the cross. There is no short cut around the cross. In this day and age of instant coffee, instant tea and jet travel, everybody wants to have things fast, quick and short. In boarding school, I learnt the hard way that short cuts must be avoided. I obtained an excuse duty slip from the doctor, which exempted me from any assigned chores for four days. After I had taken a friend’s suggestion and changed the “4” days to “14”, this friend betrayed me. He was the first Judas I was to meet in my life. I suffered greatly for that mistake. First of all, my four days of excuse were cancelled and I was given the most difficult chores to do, as well as extra punishment. From that time, I decided there would be no more short cuts in my life. I realized long ago that there is no short cut to Heaven. I will have to go the hard way. When you put seed into the ground, it will need to go through the long process of dying and growing before yielding fruit. Unfortunately, some of us want to escape the processes of dying and growing up. You cannot expect to just put money in the offering and hope that everything will be alright. You cannot avoid the reality of fasting, praying, fellowship, and witnessing. These are biblical standards we just cannot avoid!
