Nothing like an event at home! ❤️ Last week, I had the honor of speaking for IAPD – The Performance Plastics Association for their Women in Plastics event. 💥 In an attention-scarce world, everyone can benefit from conversations being more effective and impactful, and we discussed the changing psychology of influence and how we apply it throughout our professional lives: negotiation, advocacy, sales, and inspiring the actions in others that we really want to see. I loved hearing the group's examples and takeaways! 💥 The event was held at the Braskem America's beautiful US offices in downtown Philly with opening remarks by US CEO Mark Nikolich, and the chairs and organizers of this event couldn't have done a better job with this event. Are there any song lyrics that you think about a lot? I have a few, but one I think about the most. Last weekend, I took our kids to see one of our favorites in concert, Zac Brown Band, and they sang out the line from Homegrown that goes: 🎶 “It’s the weight that you carry from the things you think you want.” 🎶 It’s taken decades of mental rewriting, but there is so much that I thought I wanted. I was so sure they were part of the fabric of who I was. But did I want them? Or was I people pleasing? Living up to those expectations of “what I wanted” was heavy. Releasing them has felt like literal dumbbells off of my shoulders. A few things I thought I wanted: 👉🏽 To be top of my class, no matter how hard it was. 👉🏽 To be a super organic everything mom! (Pureeing vegetables into baby food into the night instead of sleeping. Why.) 👉🏽 To be someone who cooks every night. (Bless you, DoorDash.) 👉🏽 To be someone nice who said yes to everyone who asked for my time or attention. 👉🏽 To be hailed as “the strong one.” 👉🏽 Chicken wings. I’m done pretending, people.. they are a crappy return on investment and I don’t care who knows it. 🙈 Curious - what’s the weight that YOU carry of some things you think you want?
