Are companies seeking a candidate that doesn't exist? At the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam yesterday the panel discussion on "Careers Combatting Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities in the Hydrogen Sector" sparked some compelling insights and highlighted the challenges and opportunities in building human capabilities for the Hydrogen Economy. While it is true that the hydrogen sector is rapidly evolving, demanding a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability, there are ways of bridging the disparity between existing skill sets and the evolving needs of the hydrogen market. Transitioning from conventional energy requires strategic navigation, but achievements in conventional energy aren't obsolete and they are instead often seen as transferable assets. Recognising and articulating the transferable nature of these achievements can redefine one's career narrative in the clean energy realm. As we embark on this transformative journey, let us remain committed to bridging the gap between existing skill sets and the evolving needs of the hydrogen market, ensuring that together, we build a brighter and more sustainable future. Hydrogen is the lightest, simplest and most abundant chemical element in the universe. It has enormous potential to provide a reliable and clean source of fuel and heat for our homes, transport and industry. Join us at the Cambridge University Network Conference this year for a special panel discussion on the role that #hydrogen could play in our energy sector as we aim for #netzero by 2050 and the implications this has on all parts of the economy – investors, energy majors, renewable energy companies and the supply chain. Thanks Oliver Bishop for being part of the conversation! Spencer Stuart Katy Jarratt Katharine Ward Alice Wyatt
Only 18 days to go! We are pleased to announce that Oliver Bishop, formerly Head of Hydrogen at Shell, will attend the 2023 Cambridge University Energy Network (CUEN) Conference as a panel speaker. Bishop has led Shell's global hydrogen mobility business and held multiple roles across M&A and consulting over his 25-year career. A hydrogen expert and global business leader, Bishop will speak to hydrogen's role in energy transition at this year's conference. Join us on 9th June at the Cambridge Union to hear from leaders in energy transition and participate in dialogues with energy professionals, academics and students. Lots of networking opportunities, food & drinks will be available. 📍 Tickets for the conference: https://lnkd.in/e5dU9GF7 📍 Interested in learning more? Heartbreaking scenes from my home country. As devastating floods in Italy claim lives and leave thousands homeless, we cannot afford to ignore these climate catastrophes any longer. We need urgent climate action to protect people, businesses and homes!
As I see the devastating floods in Italy, my heart goes out to all those affected. It is a painful reminder of the escalating impacts of climate change. These are not just headlines on a newsfeed; they are real lives, real homes, and real communities being torn apart. We are witnessing the human cost of climate change in real-time, and it's a reminder that action is needed now, not tomorrow. Every day, I dedicate my time and energy to finding solutions that can make a significant difference in addressing climate change. This is not just a job for me; it is a mission—a mission to create a safer planet for future generations. What gives me hope is that we're not out of options. We have the technology and the know-how to make a change. We have the resources, and potential to shift towards a future where affordable energy, efficient and reliable infrastructure is the norm. What we need is the will to implement them. We cannot afford to wait for these changes to happen on its own or spend time arguing while the situation gets worse. The urgency of this crisis demands that everyone - politicians, businesses, and individuals - acts with urgency to prevent the next one. We can't reverse the damage that's already done, but we can prevent more. Let's not wait for the next flood, the next wildfire, the next drought. Let's act now. #climatechangeisreal #climateaction #energytransition #Zhero #flood #italy

Very excited for the upcoming Annual Energy Conference that Spencer Stuart is sponsoring and organising with the Cambridge University Energy Network. #Energy transition is front and center in the fight for a sustainable future and many bright people are working very hard on many different aspects of the problem. This is a moment to take stock of what is happening, share ideas and build new ones. Thanks to Lord Browne, who has agreed to be the keynote speaker at the conference this year, together with many other inspiring #leaders who will be sharing their views and perspectives on clean energy investments, the role of hydrogen in the energy transition, decarbonisation of transport and fuels and much more. More to come in the upcoming days.
A collaborative effort at initiating conversations around the transition of existing energy systems and designs for a green future, the Annual Energy Conference hosted by the Cambridge University Energy Network will convene professionals, scholars and students for the sharing of perspectives on 9 June, 2023 at The Cambridge Union. In anticipation of the event, we would like to share that Lord Browne of Madingley, Co-Founder and Chairman of BeyondNetZero, will give a keynote speech at this year's conference, addressing energy transition in the context of current events. An excellent opportunity for the exchange of ideas and experiences, the conference is free to attend for all via a “pay-what-you-wish” system where all proceeds will be donated to Cambridge Carbon Footprint, a sustainability-focused nonprofit organisation. Tickets to the conference are limited. Reserve your ticket today at: https://lnkd.in/e5dU9GF7 For more information on the conference, please follow our website and Linkedin: Website: https://www.cuen.uk/ Linkedin: https://lnkd.in/e8UjUVf5 #sustainability #decarbonisation #energytransition #cleanmobility #hydrogen #energyinvesting #networking #cambridgeuniversity

Excited to be here at the #FTCommodities Global Summit in Lausanne, alongside a number of Spencer Stuart colleagues. Seb Stoove Rowen Bainbridge Katy Jarratt Min (Christina) Zhu Alastair Rolfe Day 1 explored the geopolitical drama that continues to unfold around us. The ongoing impact of war in Europe took centre stage, with a sanctions regime that has pushed up costs and created enormous complexity and disruption, resulting in significant de-risking and a general shift towards security of supply over efficiency. The risk of litigation and fines has made it harder to get banking support, added to which there is a lot of 'self-sanction'. Traders are being cautious as there is huge reputational loss in getting it wrong. As one panellist put it "regulators have created a monster they cannot control". H. E. Nicolas Kazadi, Minister of Finance for the Democratic Republic of Congo, talked about the need for "more balanced partnerships" and the country's strategic objective to build a full battery supply chain. Top of his agenda is local transformation to reduce poverty, which means adding value within Congo versus just increasing volume. The day ended with a discussion of critical minerals, the energy transition and growing resource nationalism. Copper will continue to prove its value, although the current price does not reflect the anticipated shortage. Looking forward to a full day ahead, culminating with Mark Cutifani speaking at the Summit Dinner tonight.

Excited to be part of this, at this unique point in time where we see rising concerns over energy security and supply chains and now that the era of frictionless global trade is clearly over. So many interesting topics to discuss: how can business models adapt to the new market realities and what new patterns and trade relationships are emerging? (Even more) after Feb 2022, how has the industry had to change its approach to risk management? The world is tipping towards recession, fueled in part by high energy prices. Demand for fossil fuels is strong, keeping energy prices high, but investment in the sector is very low by historical standards. Will the macro-economic pressures outweigh the supply constraints? #ftcommodities
March 19, Lausanne, it’s that time of the year for the annual picture of beautiful Lac Leman. Unfortunately we can’t see the mountains today. Just arrived and looking forward to three days of strong commodity content at the FT Global Commodity Summit. Spencer Stuart has been partnering with the FT & sponsoring this wonderful event for many years. The line-up for the 2023 looks very strong & diverse. #ftcommodities #commodities #leadership #ft #lausanne #spencerstuart #sustainability #energytransition #agribusiness Katy Jarratt Rowen Bainbridge Giulia Teodori Min (Christina) Zhu Pedro Coronel
