Are companies seeking a candidate that doesn't exist? At the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam yesterday the panel discussion on "Careers Combatting Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities in the Hydrogen Sector" sparked some compelling insights and highlighted the challenges and opportunities in building human capabilities for the Hydrogen Economy. While it is true that the hydrogen sector is rapidly evolving, demanding a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability, there are ways of bridging the disparity between existing skill sets and the evolving needs of the hydrogen market. Transitioning from conventional energy requires strategic navigation, but achievements in conventional energy aren't obsolete and they are instead often seen as transferable assets. Recognising and articulating the transferable nature of these achievements can redefine one's career narrative in the clean energy realm. As we embark on this transformative journey, let us remain committed to bridging the gap between existing skill sets and the evolving needs of the hydrogen market, ensuring that together, we build a brighter and more sustainable future.
