Video is important for so many reasons, including showing up in search. Despite the challenges posed with Google's AI Overviews, publishers can significantly enhance their visibility by enriching their stories with multimedia elements like videos, photo galleries, and infographics. These elements not only boost search rankings but also create a more engaging user experience. Here are some key tips to keep in mind: 📹 Highlight Multimedia: Make sure to call out videos in your headlines and meta descriptions. Even embedding a video from social media within a story can greatly improve visibility. 📝 Plan Ahead: During your story-planning process, be sure to catalog what multimedia elements (charts, galleries, videos) each story should include. Doing this at the story planning level is much more successful than doing it after a writer has finished their reporting. 🎥 Enhance Accessibility: Make it easy for users to access your multimedia content. Position videos at the top of your page and use scrolling galleries instead of requiring users to click through photos. This creates a smoother and more enjoyable user experience. 🗺️ Use Locator Maps: For any story featuring more than one location, include a locator map. It’s a simple addition, but it’s incredibly effective. This strategy works particularly well for magazine publishers who often use a list-based approach to content. By prioritizing these multimedia elements and focusing on the overall user experience, publishers can effectively navigate Google's E-E-A-T strategy and improve their search visibility. 🌟 We help many publishers with these kind of strategies and are happy to share successful tactics with you. With so much activity happening around Google's changes and AI's impact on content, you may be scratching your head on what to do? 🤖📚 I want to take a minute to talk about how Google is prioritizing human-generated, personalized content in search rankings. As AI-generated content continues to flood search results, Google is continuing to emphasize the importance of its E-E-A-T framework, which stands for Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. And that framework really ties to quality content. Simply put, content that has a human touch is more likely to resonate with readers and rank better in search results. Tips for Editorial Teams ✍️ 📚 Make sure your content is well-researched, comes from credible sources, and showcases your industry expertise. 🔍 Search engines favor content that offers fresh perspectives and new insights. So don’t create the same content everyone else does. 💡 You have to find unique angles and approaches and personalizing your content really matters. 🛠️ Provide helpful information and clear takeaways. This makes your content practical and valuable, ensuring readers find it useful and informative. By focusing on these elements, your content will meet Google’s E-E-A-T criteria, resonate more with readers, and improve in search rankings. #GoogleEAT #ContentStrategy #SEO #PersonalizedContent #Expertise #Credibility #FreshPerspectives #HelpfulContent

💡 I was recently reminded why rolling up your sleeves matters when you’re trying to advance sales efforts. 📈 In an effort to bolster a client’s branded content revenue, last week I met with ad reps in small groups and took a deep dive into their top client lists. Together, we discussed each client, their history and what products they had taken from the media company. From there, we brainstormed unique and engaging story ideas tailored for each of those top clients. ✨ I saw light bulbs go off during our meeting, not just around the story ideas but the value that this kind of content would have for their clients. I had talked in larger groups previously about the branded content program and we’ve definitely had success, but this more individualized approach made it more real for the reps who are selling it. I'm incredibly optimistic this tactic will deliver results and excited to use it with other clients. #SalesSuccess #BrandedContent #ClientEngagement #TeamEffort #InnovativeThinking #DavidArkin #SalesStrategy #PersonalizedSupport #SalesRepSuccess

It was such a thrill to attend the Texas Press Association's annual conference with my kid last week where I was speaking on video. 🎤 📽 My 15-year-old is an aspiring high school journalist so getting the chance to have her attend an event where she could learn about journalism and actually hear me speak was pretty amazing. Though, the idea that I could educate others about Reels was hard to fathom (Dad, what do you know about Instagram? 🤔). Funny how your kids view you. 😂 The best part of this summer is getting to have our teenager do an internship with my consulting company. She’s starting out optimizing our photos on our consulting site with alt text and is next building a series of Instagram graphics our clients can use for news and things to do posts. 📲 Who knows if our teen will continue down the path of journalism — though there’s lots of talk about journalism schools and content-oriented majors around our dinner table 🍽️ — but for now it’s incredibly fun to see her so interested in the future of journalism. ✨ #TexasPressAssociation #Journalism #Family #Internship #SocialMedia #Reels #FutureJournalist #DigitalMarketing #ProudDad #ContentCreation

Thank you to the Alliance of Area Business Publishers for having me speak at your annual conference on AI for editorial teams and branded content strategies. I absolutely loved the questions and engagement from the audience during these sessions. While both are quite different topics, they are individually huge needs and opportunities for media companies and the packed rooms and number of questions that flew my way, clearly told me that these are areas that publishers are very interested in and are looking for more guidance on how to maximize both.

What a wonderful few days spent in Detroit this week with Alexia Bourkoulas, CEO of Chicago Parent and Metro Parent, and her team strategizing on digital audience and revenue growth plans. 📈✨ I’ve been working with their team for over a year now, and it’s been a thrill to see their audience grow so much, their team learn critical new skillsets, and to help them with so many innovative initiatives. 🚀👩💼 The ceiling is incredibly high for their company and I'm fortunate to play a role in their success.🌟👨👩👧👦 I absolutely love the parenting publishing space because, when done well, the content solves problems and creates a better quality of life for families. 🏠❤️ Understanding who that audience is, what they want, and where they want to consume that information matters just as much as creating all of that amazing information. 📊📰 #Parenting #Publishing #DigitalGrowth #Innovation #FamilyLife #ContentStrategy #AudienceEngagement #Detroit #ChicagoParent #MetroParent
