    AFS-USA was founded by volunteer WWI and WWII American Field Service ambulance drivers who emerged from the wars with a bold mission: to help prevent future conflict through cultural exchange and understanding.

    As a partner in the global AFS network, AFS-USA offers international exchange and education opportunities in over 45 countries and hosts exchange students from 90 countries. These intercultural programs are made possible by the dedicated work of AFS Volunteers—more than 4,400 in the U.S. and over 50,000 worldwide.

    AFS offers diverse study abroad programs that vary in length from a year to a few weeks and cover timely and timeless topics such as sustainability and language learning. What every program has in common is a commitment to fostering intercultural and global competence in our students, host families, schools, and communities. This cultural exchange helps us come together, across typical divides, to make a more peaceful and just world. That’s the #AFSEffect.

    Adoption Network Cleveland (a.k.a. The Ohio Family Connection) is an innovative non-profit organization with over 30 years of experience serving the adoption and foster care communities. The organization fulfills otherwise unmet needs for information, advocacy, education and support for adult adoptees, birthparents and birth family; adoptive, kinship and foster families; youth in foster care and foster alumni; and related professionals. More recently, the organization has expanded its services to use its expertise in adoption search, reunion with birth family, and peer support networks to assist those who have been donor-conceived or have misattributed parentage. Adoption Network Cleveland is a member of Greater Cleveland Community Shares. The organization can be found online at www.adoptionnetwork.org or on social media at @AdoptionNetCle.

    The Outreach and Development Committee seeks to raise awareness about foster care and adoption issues as well as the programs and services that Adoption Network Cleveland offers to address these issues.  In addition, the committee oversees the development of financial resources from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources in order to ensure that the organization has the funds necessary to implement these programs and services.

  • Industrial Arts Student of the Year

    A shocking award as my woodworking skills produced only a mediocre pencil holder and a soap box derby car. However, I did emerge from the class with all 10 fingers intact which I believe is what led Mr. Burchin to select me as the dark horse winner. Sadly, I squandered my early promise, never again climbing to such heights in the industrial arts. Although, I did once rebuild a window frame with such skill that the window *almost* closed all of the way once installed.
