"Google lays off more employees and moves some roles to other countries" 🔴A Google spokesperson confirmed the cuts but declined to elaborate on the number of affected staff. Here at Google, we’ve always said that sustainability is embedded in all aspects of our work. This week at I/O, Google’s annual developer conference, I was reminded of the progress we’re making in this journey. Among the highlights were: 👋 Hello, Trillium —  We announced the sixth generation of our custom AI accelerator, the Trillium Tensor Processing Unit (TPU).  This is our most sustainable TPU — over 67% more energy-efficient compared to our previous generation. 🔋A more energy-efficient Android  — Android 14 for TV is coming to consumer devices this year. We’ve added new energy modes to put users in control, helping to reduce a TV’s standby power consumption. I have to talk more about the Walmart Roblox physical marketplace powered by Sawhorse Productions Nic Hill As you know since 2009 I have being in the space of immersive technologies, and the promise of connected products was out there since then. But enabling the right infrastructure is never easy - specially thinking of mass adoption. Innovation becomes utility when it solves a problem for many, and it is adopted by a multitude with the minimum friction possible. Walmart Discovered phygital marketplace is a bespoke use case where a powerful retail giant take the lead in using games to empower communities, and eventually create a path for physical products consumption. It is straight forward experience, part of the world of Gen-alphas on Roblox. Some personal take aways from this launch: • games are major tool for comms with next gen • bring your product inside a tool your customers like •leverage your community power •expand e-commerce behind the scrolling 2D standards •make it fun! I just wrapped up presenting my framework on Product Strategy to the Walmart Global Tech team in collaboration with Reforge. One of the lessons I shared was how product strategy is not only important initially when you are searching for product/market fit, but especially important as you seek to expand beyond your initial market. I shared a detailed case study of such expansion from Figma. Figma's vision has always been to make design accessible to everyone. But they realized that their core product largely encouraged designers to create while other stakeholders like engineers, product managers, and marketers were largely viewers and commenters. To ultimately realize their vision, they came up with an expansion strategy to create a new tool called FigJam, a whiteboard tool, that was easy enough for design stakeholders beyond designers to actually create. Non-designers would use this in the earliest stages of design thinking to map out user problems, run brainstorming sessions, and explore new product ideas. The strategy has been very successful in that now 2/3s of Figma's weekly active users are non-designers.

Today is my first official day of the sabbatical and as promised, here's an update against my goals. It's been a busy weekend! As a refresher, my goals over the next three months are to: 1) Live in Mexico City 🇲🇽 (and hopefully travel within Latin America) 2) Do an "internship" 👨🏻‍🎓 or summer project at a Latin America-based startup 3) Meet more ✨incredible✨ LatAm-based founders and investors 4) Catch up on admin tasks for my Equestrian 🐴 business 5) Knock at least three books 📚 off of my reading list Here's what I accomplished over the last four days, in the same order of my goals: 1) Attended NY Tech Week events hosted by folks like SomosVC, Mike MacCombie, and Juan Manuel Barrero (Lazo). All were absolutely incredible and I met so many inspiring founders, builders, and investors that were excited for me and offered to help me connect with folks they knew in LatAm. Thank you so much to the hosts for organizing 🙏 2) Made great progress on finding my summer "internship" and really excited to lock something down in the next couple of weeks. 3) Made progress on securing an apartment for the two months I'll be in Mexico City. Shoutout to Tom who's been touring these apartments. 4) Met Yuk Chi Chan who's not only an amazingly accomplished human being, but also a founder who's building something every space 🚀 company needs. If you want to learn more, reach out to him. 5) Cleared out at least six months of backlogged tasks for the 🐴 farm. 6) Made progress on my reading list 📚 . Planning to finish the first book this week. This last one wasn't part of my goals, but I think it's important: visited my sister and made a few new forever memories. 🤗 One thing I've realized these past few days is how thankful I am to have my family, friends, colleagues, and everyone else I've met along the way by my side. Everyone has really banded together to help me make the most of this sabbatical and I am eternally grateful 🫡 Anyways, can't wait to report back on more progress soon! ✌️

When I begin working with a new boss, colleague, or employee, I take the first few weeks to get to know them–I focus on identifying their strengths from which I can learn. It's important to disregard hierarchy (I have recently sat through so many panels and presentations where folks interviewed Gen Z or Gen Alpha to gain insights into their preferences and dislikes...we learn from everyone!) and instead focus on the learning opportunities each person offers. This approach allows me to continuously broaden my knowledge and skills, propelling my career forward. #careertips #growth #knowledge

#CPG is so much fun. So many brand leaders want a new way to "speak" to their consumers on product, package or online. Right now, the formats are outdated (shelf talker?) or minimal (label on a tiny package) or if a QR code is used it connects to a website (not mobile friendly, hard to update) or a form (who wants to fill out a form?). One of my favorite Amazon leadership principles is “Success and Scale Bring Broad Responsibility,” which highlights the importance of being thoughtful about the effects of our actions on our local communities, planet, and future generations. I'm super inspired by Nubank's sustainability achievements, made possible by the power of AWS Graviton. By adopting AWS Graviton, Nubank reduced their carbon footprint by 21%. Massive win for the environment and a testament to the transformative potential of cloud computing.   Of course, the benefits went beyond just sustainability. Nubank workloads achieved 14% better price/performance, enabling greater investments in expanding access to vital financial services for underserved communities across Latin America. Doing well by doing good - that's the kind of win-win we should all strive for.   As we continue to celebrate #EarthDay every day, I hope Nubank's journey inspires all of us to explore how cloud innovation can help reduce our environmental footprint. Last week, some incredible experience design minds gathered at the House of Yes in Brooklyn for the World Experience Summit organized by WXO - the WXO - World Experience Organization. The “Experience Revolution” Takes Center Stage in NYC What was once a movement pioneered by visionaries has shifted mainstream. As an OG instigator, the event felt like an reunion of so many incredible pioneers who have been working for years to create meaningful impact on people’s lives. Justin "JB" Bolognino , Emilie Baltz, Jacob Marshall, Ida Benedetto, Jeremy Boxer, Dave Rife, Gabe L., Kae Burke & Anya Shopnakova. I remember many early Windmill Factory pitches where people looked at us like we had three heads! We had to invent a collaboration method, The Pollination Process, just to get buy in from our clients which would walk them through baby steps to explain an interactive installation for a public park or an immersive theatre experience at a conference. It feels now we could simply say the word “interactive or immersive” and a client would get excited! It’s very affirming to see this industry blossom into a global phenomenon and James Wallman and the WXO - World Experience Organization are doing a great job bringing us together. Are experiences the new luxury? I predict with the AI content explosion real interactions with humans will be the new currency both URL and IRL. A new currency in a world filled by content overload and overstimulation and passive consumption. People crave meaningful, multi-sensory journeys that spark joy, connection and transformation. Experience Design Pioneers have answered this call, creating installations and adventures that ignite the imagination and awaken the soul. From art exhibitions that dissolve the boundaries between physical and digital to immersive theatrical spectacles that transport audiences on fantastical journeys to spas and wellness experiences, theme parks, corporate meetings, retreats and festivals, interactive social games… the possibilities are literally limitless on what we’re calling “an experience” these days. Let’s trade static screens for kaleidoscopic dream worlds, trade passive scrolling for full-body engagement and create works that challenge each other. #womenwednesday The “She’s not Strategic Syndrome” Early in my career, I used to interview a lot of product marketing candidates and I’d always get the operational interview role. My male counterpart would get analysis. Women are shouldering too much at work and often overlooked for their strategic abilities and contributions. I see over and over again examples where a male leader got to do the “strategic” work while a very hard working female report is shouldering all the work preventing her from having the space to be in the clouds. What can we do about it? 💡Uplevel presentations and executive meetings 📈 Make your contributions know 🦹‍♀️Don’t let it define you, calling someone not strategic is a throw away statement.
