Established in 1986, Leadership Greater Washington was constructed by a group of regional leaders and three committed organizations: The Greater Washington Board of Trade, The Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation and The Junior League of Washington. Modeling Leadership Greater Washington after other community leadership organizations, its founders invested personal and professional resources to fulfill their vision of an organization that would foster communication and cooperation among the area's established leaders. Leadership Greater Washington is devoted to leaders in every stage of their leadership journey. In 1991, the Youth Leadership Greater Washington program was created to provide an interactive youth leadership development and community education program for high school sophomores and juniors in the Greater Washington region. The Effective Leadership Institute, an adult leadership development program, was created in 2010. And in 2014, LGW launched the Rising Leaders program for regional leaders early in their career. No other leadership organization crosses and conquers geographic and geopolitical barriers as Leadership Greater Washington, which serves more than 17 city and county governments in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. This gives way to cooperative work on a regional basis, fostering discussion, sparking problem-solving and motivating positive change to regional challenges, through Leadership Greater Washington's dynamic resources and programming efforts.

Please join me at the largest St. Jude event in Washington, D.C., the 15th annual St. Jude Gourmet Gala: Mardi Gras for the Kids! on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the National Building Museum. By attending, you will be supporting children suffering from catastrophic and life-threatening diseases. The Gourmet Gala provides an exclusive opportunity to taste some of the D.C. area’s finest restaurant cuisine while mingling with more than 750 business, financial and political leaders. In addition, many one-of-a-kind auction items are up for bid during our amazing silent auction. The Gourmet Gala is organized by a committee that has helped raise more than $3 million for St. Jude and has helped support various programs including gene therapy, bone marrow transplants, immunology and AIDS vaccine research. No place in the world does for children what St. Jude does: • St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital opened in 1962 to 80 percent today • The daily operating cost of St. Jude is $1.7 million, which is primarily covered by public contributions •During the past five years, 81 cents of every dollar received has supported the research and treatment at St. Jude
