This article about Brookdale Senior Living provides a great example of why we can't just use AI or algorithms to solve every problem. AI is a helpful tool in some circumstances but isn't a fix-all solution. Brookdale Senior Living acquired an algorithm-based system to set staffing at various properties. However, the algorithm made some critical mistakes that ended up negatively impacting the experiences of seniors there. For instance, Douglas MacMillan and Christopher Rowland report that "building managers repeatedly complained that the company's algorithm underestimated the amount of labor they needed to meet resident needs." If we want to ensure great care for seniors, we can't expect AI or algorithms to do all the work. #SeniorCare #SeniorCareStaffing #EthicalAI

There's one thing that truly differentiates great healthtech companies from the ones who fizzle out. Distribution. There's so much red tape in this industry - if you have incredible distribution, it's so much easier to build and iterate on your product. Working with customers isn't hidden behind a 5-year bureaucratic process anymore. Without great distribution, everything becomes 10x harder and takes 10x longer.
