“Through daily supervision of Malinka Walaliyadde during Summer 2009, I directly benefited from his dedication and work ethic. It is my privilege to take the opportunity to recommend Malinka, as he is one of the best employees I have ever supervised. He is one of those rare students who has earned the support of every staff member, faculty and peer he has come to know. In supervising the work of approx. 55 assistants, temps and Cornell student workers over 6 years, I’ve observed a multitude of work styles and attributes. Malinka set a whole new standard, he raised the bar for all future interns, he is the ruler by which future intern’s performance will be measured. With minimal orientation and supervision Malinka grasped the function of office, responded to phone calls, emails and visitors, negotiated contracts, created publications and coordinated several large scale events including reservations, catering and advertising. He fully understood how his contributions affected the big picture and did his utmost to ensure optimization and success. In 2009 he founded ECaFT (Engineering Career Fair Team); a student group I advise. Planning for the 2010 Spring Engineering and Technical Career Fair began 10 months in advance due to Malinka’s foresight and understanding of both the macro and micro tasks that needed to be completed. Through attention to detail, thoroughness, and persistence he ensured that ECaFT became a registered organization at Cornell, had a website and business cards, software to complete career fair registrations, a venue, catering, parking, and advertising. There was not a single task completed that was not directly influenced or initiated by Malinka. His leadership, ability to delegate and follow-up was impressive and even more so considering he started in his position during his freshmen year and was delegating to seniors and grad students. His remarkable demeanor and interpersonal skills make him a natural leader. No matter how complex the task, or how tight the deadline, Malinka easily manages and succeeds. Malinka was the crucial instrument in the success of the February Career Fair that was attended by 1600 students at Cornell and 79 companies. I know Malinka’s work ethic and consistently outstanding performance will result in complete confidence of his abilities.”
