“It's rare that you come across a research talent like Amanda. I had the pleasure of hiring her in 2014 as a design researcher who would help build the practice of Design Insights and Co-operative Design within REI Private Brands. I have always been impressed with her ability to make people that she interviews comfortable in conversation, her sincere empathy and most importantly her curiosity - she is the master of asking the tough questions! I have also had the opportunity to see Amanda grow into a strong people manager, a tenacious advocate for users in high-stakes presentations to C-level leadership and a thought-leader for trends that impact long-term vision and strategy for design. I highly recommend Amanda! Any organization would be lucky to have her on their team.”

Reach the World’s mission is to help elementary and secondary school students and teachers to develop the knowledge, attitudes, values and thinking skills needed for responsible citizenship in a complex, culturally diverse and rapidly changing world. Through its interactive website, RTW enriches the curriculum by connecting classrooms to volunteer travelers who are exploring the globe.
As a Volunteer Editor, I am responsible for coaching travelers as they share their journey. I help provide mentorship to travelers on writing and professional skills. I proof-read and fact-check their articles and provide constructive feedback and advice.

Doughnuts & Doodles

Doughnuts & Doodles (aka Doughdoo) is a meetup that started in Chicago with three creatives who wanted to improve their illustration and rapid visualization skills in a fun, social way. The once offline meetup was brought to Meetup.com so that others could join to socialize with other creative minds and improve their drawing skills. I lead the Seattle chapter that engages an open forum for practicing sketching and constructive critique. The group gets together every few weeks for breakfast…

Through the AIGA Chicago mentor program, I collaborated with a group of Chicago-based creatives to create the "Design Is..." newsprint. Our goal: to engage and educate high school students in Chicago about the power, potential and possibilities of design. We designed a newsprint piece that illustrated and visualized eleven words that we felt best communicated and exemplified the meaning of design. This newsprint was then distributed and presented to urban Chicago-area high school students.Other creatorsSee project
