Bringing the World Into Classrooms

About us

Reach the World makes the benefits of travel accessible to classrooms, inspiring students to become curious, confident global citizens. Enabled by our digital platform, classrooms and college student travelers explore the world together. RTW is based in New York City and provides enrichment programming nationwide. The National Geographic Society Education Foundation named RTW a Model Program in Geography Education. Through Reach the World, educators select a college student to travel with online for a semester. Educators select travelers whose majors, background and personal interests are a close fit for their curricula and their students. Then, students go on virtual journeys with their travelers for a semester – and expand their worldview, skills and aspirations in the process. Through the connection with these travelers – real mentors that students come to know – deep and real seeds are planted. An "I can do this, too" spirit is born. RTW students come to know that college is a given; that there is funding to help them attend; and that study abroad is a worthy, exciting and achievable goal that can propel them forward for the rest of their lives. Have you traveled? Has anyone shared their travel stories with you? Has this affected your worldview? If you can answer “Yes” to any of these questions, then you understand the mission of Reach the World. RTW offers educators the chance to look beyond the textbook, view their curricula through a global lens, and take their students on the road!

Happy World Oceans Week! To celebrate, Reach the World partnered with The Explorers Club to bring high school students interested in marine science careers to Club headquarters in New York City for a morning of mentorship and ocean inspiration. Students from Hasbrouck Heights High School in New Jersey examined foraminifera from around the world under microscopes, witnessed the extraordinary water filtering prowess of oysters, learned about marine science careers from the Explorers Club’s Blue Generation early career professionals, and then dove into the underwater world of sperm whales and sharks with explorer and marine scientist Gaelin Rosenwaks. #ReachTheWorld #WOW2024
