In her latest for The Drinks Business, Contributor Kathleen Willcox poses the question, “Does Chablis Hold the Magic Formula for Wine Success?” President Rocco Lombardo weighs in on the momentum and success of the region: “The perceived value of Chablis when compared to the Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru white Burgundy offerings from the Cote de Beaune are providing the region with great momentum,” noting that annual releases from Domaine Laroche and Domaine Billaud-Simon sell out within a ten-month period. Read more about how LAROCHE and #DomaineBillaudSimon are reaching more consumers over in The Drinks Business. https://lnkd.in/e-Gz9b5v

Famille Joly’s Nicolas Joly is more than just a vintner — he’s a philosopher of biodynamics, as described by Wine Enthusiast, revolutionizing winemaking in France’s Loire Valley and inspiring winemakers worldwide. In a dedicated feature by Wine Enthusiast’s Aleksandar Zecevic, Joly explains his commitment to produce wines that show terroir, reflecting the unique characteristics of its specific vineyard site. He challenges us to consider: “When you taste the wine ... how much comes from the conductor of the orchestra, and how much comes from the quality of the orchestra?” Read more about how Joly’s innovative practices have shaped him as a biodynamic trailblazer over on Wine Enthusiast. https://lnkd.in/eauixBhQ #wdcru #wilsondaniels #famillejoly #nicolasjoly #biodynamicwine

We are pleased to present our 2024 Bourgogne Offering – a celebration of tradition, terroir, and timeless elegance that highlights the mastery of our illustrious #Bourgogne producers. Over the past 46 years, we have slowly and methodically forged partnerships with families who represent the quality pinnacle in the Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais, and Chablis, so that we could offer you a Bourgogne Portfolio that is unmatched in its quality, scope, and significance. Among this unique Offering includes Domaine Leflaive’s 2022 Puligny-Montrachet and Mâconnais, highlighting their commitment to expanding and enhancing vineyard holdings in the town of Verzé. Also featured are the release of the 2020s from #EspritLeflaive, a forward-thinking project pioneered by fourth-generation Brice de La Morandière in partnership with winemaker pierre VINCENT, which ventures beyond the Domaine’s home in Puligny-Montrachet to highlight the diverse terroirs of Chablis and Côte de Nuits as a micro-négociant. From Domaine Faiveley, led by seventh-generation Erwan Faiveley and Eve Faiveley, they present the 2022 vintage, celebrated for its outstanding quality and vibrant fruitiness. In 2014, the Faiveley family expanded its winemaking heritage to Chablis with the acquisition of Domaine Billaud-Simon – which today is operated independently – whose 2022 site-specific #Chablis are also featured in this Offering. Neighboring Billaud-Simon is LAROCHE, one of the largest owners of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus vineyards in Chablis. The 2022 vintage marks the first under new winemaker Romain Chevrolat, an emerging talent originally from Champagne with experience in Bourgogne’s finest vineyards and cellars. From Château du Moulin-à-Vent, Proprietor Edouard Parinet presents the elegant 2021 releases, which have proven to have incredible aging potential. Also owned by the Parinet family is Domaine du Roc des Boutires in the heart of Pouilly-Fuissé, who is releasing the 2022 wines known for their tension and expression. Our team just wrapped up an exciting few days at the 41st Food & Wine Classic in Aspen! Marking the debut of Elena Walch in the Colorado market as part of the Wilson Daniels National Portfolio, it was such a privilege to have fifth-generation Karoline Walch join us to host various immersive events for the trade, press, and consumers. To kick off the weekend, we hosted an exclusive luncheon for the amazing seminar speakers. Karoline shared her family’s dedication to terroir through the new releases of the expressive whites and elegant, yet concentrated reds – including the single-varietal expressions from Vigna Castel Ringberg and Vigna Kastelaz, alongside the iconic cuvée, Beyond the Clouds. Then, we held our second-ever ‘Social Hour’ at our condo, with a lineup of top-notch wines in big bottles and plenty of good company. And to wrap up the weekend, The Little Nell graciously hosted us for a late night in the cellar for a deep dive into our library of exceptional wines – including library wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, #DomaineLeflaive, Domaine Faiveley, Familia Torres, #GAJA, and, of course, Elena Walch. A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful friends and supporters who joined us to raise a glass this year in Aspen. We’re looking forward to another fantastic year ahead! #wdcru #wilsondaniels #foodandwineclassic #foodandwine #aspenfoodandwine #ElenaWalch #DomainedelaRomaneeConti

It was a pleasure to welcome Domaine Faiveley Principal Erwan Faiveley to introduce the 2022 releases in the market, which is a vintage notable for its generous quantity, impeccable quality, and intensely fragrant fruit. These wines – also featured in our recently published 2024 Bourgogne Luxury Offering – stand as a testament to the enduring values that have defined Domaine Faiveley for seven generations. Today, Domaine Faiveley is one of the most important owners of diverse vineyards in Bourgogne totaling 127 hectares, of which 13 hectares are Grands Crus and 26 hectares are Premiers Crus. Across the entirety of the vineyard holdings, the 2022 growing season was managed consistently with organic practices, as the winery began the official conversion to organics in July 2022. Thank you to everyone who joined us last week to celebrate these exquisite wines! We’re looking forward to continue sharing the family’s entire range of expressive 2022s with you this summer. #wdcru #wilsondaniels #domainefaiveley #faiveley #bourgogne #burgundywines

Our National team just returned from an unforgettable immersion trip to Italy, where we had the privilege of connecting with some of our family-owned winery partners: Elvio Cogno, the GAJA Properties, Tenuta Sette Cieli, Benanti Viticoltori S.r.l. and FEUDO MONTONI. Our first stop was at #ElvioCogno, where fourth-generation Nadia Cogno and winemaker Valter Fissore showcased their meticulous organic vineyard practices and indigenous varieties. Valter describes their wines as "precise and pure," crafted with low yields per hectare and a profound respect for the natural balance of the vine. Next, we toured the Gaja family's iconic #Barbaresco estate. Fourth-generation Angelo Gaja, with his children Gaia and Giovanni, guided us through their winemaking practices, which have propelled Barbaresco to international fame and ignited a broader revival of Italian wines. Later in the week, the team also had the opportunity explore two more of the #Gaja family’s properties: #Ca’Marcanda in Bolgheri and #IDDA on Mount Etna. At Ca’Marcanda, our team experienced a fairy tale moment releasing butterflies from their boxes, reminding us of nature’s beauty and how important it is to work *with* nature to ensure the optimal health of the vineyards. Then venturing to Mount Etna’s southern slope, we explored IDDA – the joint venture launched in 2017 between Angelo Gaja and renowned winemaker Alberto Graci. The vineyards serve as the exclusive producer for the IDDA label, crafting exquisite Etna Rosso DOP and Bianco Sicilia DOP wines. While on #MountEtna, Benanti’s Salvino Benanti and Antonio V. B. graciously welcomed us at their winery amidst the picturesque slopes for a tasting and dinner. As the only winery with vineyards on every slope of the volcano, Benanti is widely recognized as a pioneering force in Etna’s fine winemaking excellence. At Tenuta Sette Cieli, we were warmly met by Proprietor Ambrogio Cremona Ratti and Winemaker Elena Pozzolini. Perched above the Mediterranean Sea in #Bolgheri, we walked through 18 acres of vineyards — home to Sette Cieli’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec. To conclude the trip, we met up with FABIO SIRECI, the third generation of Feudo Montoni's devoted winemaking family. We toured the certified-organic vineyards on this historic Sicilian property, which has been around since 1469. These vineyards are famous for producing some of Italy’s most celebrated grapes – like Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Catarratto, and Grillo. We’re honored to represent these family who entrust us with sharing their exceptional wines with you, and we can’t wait to share these stories with you in the market! #wdcru #wilsondaniels #wdinitaly #italy #italianwines #finewine

What pressures come with importing some of the wine world’s biggest names?   “Fulfilling high expectations. These are wine labels with long, important histories and celebrated reputations. They need to have very high standards, or they wouldn’t be where they are today. I would like to think that at Wilson Daniels, we have similarly high standards that meet their expectations.”   President Rocco Lombardo shares this insight and many more in the life of a wine importer and marketer in the May issue of Decanter, on newsstands now!

When it comes to embodying the spirit of winemaking, Castello di Volpaia Principal Federica Mascheroni is one of the best, which New York and Texas got to experience last week!   Reflecting on her family’s commitment to the region, Fede shares, “For us, Volpaia has always been more than a winery: it is a family, and our values reflect that. It is important that we love and respect the land that hosts us.”   During her visit, Fede presented the new 2020 vintage releases of the Chianti Classico Riserva, Coltassala Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, and the Balifico Toscana IGT which were tasted alongside the 1998 vintage of each wine, highlighting the ageability of these esteemed wines.   The 2020 vintage has produced wines that are bright in color, with good acidity and a more elegant, less concentrated taste than previous years. #wdcru #wilsondaniels #castellodivolpaia #volpaia #coltassala #chianticlassico
