From the buzzing city of Islamabad to the vibrant heart of Lahore, I found myself amidst passionate individuals, all united by a common cause: tackling marine plastic pollution. 🌊 I attended the Plastic Free Rivers and Seas for South Asia Project Round Table Discussion in Islamabad and the PLEASE Project Workshop in Lahore last week which were organized by my UNOPS team in partnership with SACEP. It was inspiring to see people from all backgrounds come together to discuss not just the challenges we are facing but most importantly solutions. The energy in the room was palpable. Government officials, private sector, activists, and community members shared their insights and experiences. It was a melting pot of ideas and innovation. 💡 A big thank you to my team for organizing these events and to the UNOPS Pakistan country office for their unwavering support. 🙏 Jennifer Ankrom-Khan, Hasnat S., Lian Z., Jaime Alarma Olmos, Yasodhara Kariyawasam, Dinithi De Alwis, Nusrat S., Nauman Zakariya, Subashini Kaneshwaren, Priyanga W. It was a pleasure to see US Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin during his visit to the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM). In our discussions, I thanked him for his steadfast support for the mechanism, and updated him on UNVIM operations. UNVIM plays a critical role to support enforcement of the UN arms embargo to non-government controlled areas of Yemen, while ensuring that essential goods reach the Yemeni people. I am so proud of the @UNOPS team who are working under tough weather conditions to conduct such thorough inspectionsk, which facilitate imports of critical items to those who need them most. Since 2016, UNVIM has facilitated the delivery of over 31 million metric tonnes (t) of food, over 15.5 million t of fuel, over 6.4 million t of other cargo, including medical supplies. Thanks to U.S. Department of State Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office European Commission @Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan KSrelief and our partners in the Goverment of Djibouti https://vimye.org/
