Transforming the way the world researches and treats age-related disease.

About us

SENS Research Foundation (SRF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on transforming the way the world researches and treats age-related disease. SRF focuses on a damage repair paradigm for treating the diseases of aging, which it advances through scientific research, advocacy and education. SENS Research Foundation supports research projects at universities and institutes around the world with the goal of curing such age-related diseases as macular degeneration, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease. Educating the public about how we can solve the economic and political issues stemming from an aging world population and training researchers to support a growing regenerative medicine field are also major endeavors of the organization that are being accomplished though advocacy campaigns and educational programs.

Please meet SRF Director of Development, Maria Entraigues Abramson: “I have been thinking about aging as a (medical) problem since I was a little girl. In 2004 I wrote to our co-founder Dr. Aubrey de Grey to express how fascinating I found his work. Although I didn’t work in the biotech field at the time, I offered my help. He asked me to translate the information on his website into Spanish and Italian. That was the start of this continuing journey and I've been a part of SRF since its founding. I love life and can't get enough of it. I know my youthful healthy years will be gone way too fast -- there’s so much more I want to do. Besides my career in biotech, I’m a lifelong professional singer-songwriter and a licensed pilot. I have toured the world, recorded on countless albums, worked as a music journalist for over a decade, acted in films, and composed music for films and TV. Additionally, I have worked in diplomacy, including with the Los Angeles Consular Corps, and owned aircraft and a flight school. Today, my primary focus is to help advance the science of longevity to achieve healthier, longer lives for all, while enjoying life to the fullest with my husband, Gary, and our dog, Watson. I’ve always been interested in science and technology, especially the puzzle of aging and the degeneration and disease that come with it. I’ve found it curious how most people accepted aging as inevitable rather than a challenge to overcome. Humans have conquered many ‘impossible’ things, and this will top the list. Every day, I look forward to supporting the mission of achieving healthy longevity -- which I consider humanity's most important one. I'm incredibly grateful for the brilliant and beautiful human beings I work with at SRF. I’ve witnessed the birth of this field, and I feel confident to say that it's no longer a question of if but when. Let's work together to make it happen faster!” Learn more about our team: https://lnkd.in/eHgH_H5f

Is Viagra a longevity therapeutic? Please read Science Writer Michael Rae’s SENSible Answer to this month’s selected question: https://lnkd.in/en5pyimM A recent preprint reports that use of Viagra and related drugs is associated with a lower mortality rate, raising hopes that it might be repurposed as a longevity therapeutic. Unfortunately, the methodology used in this and other recent studies is too weak to arouse too much excitement just yet. Please send us your SENSible Question to SENSibleQ@sens.org! Each month, we will select one question and post it in our SENSible Answer Blog. #ViagraResearch #LongevityTherapeutic #HealthResearch #AntiAging #SENSibleQuestion

To achieve the research breakthroughs that will lead to longer and healthier lives, we need a great team. Luckily, we have just that. Meet Apoorva Shankar, Research Associate I: "My interest in science kindled at a very young age. I have always wanted to work on a mission that largely focused on helping the community. Witnessing many close family members age and suffer from age related diseases got me deeply interested in the field. I have been part of SENS Research Foundation for 10 months and have had the opportunity to work with a very knowledgeable and committed group of researchers. In such a short duration, my understanding of the underlying mechanisms of aging and the field has significantly increased. I consider myself lucky to be a part of something so valuable which could help combat age-inflicted diseases and transform lives! Outside of work, I find joy in painting, watching movies and documentaries or spending time with family and friends." Success is not final; failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts. -Winston S. Churchill To learn more about our organization and team, click here: https://lnkd.in/g_ea45ud
