Hi everyone! I'm Emma Yakam, and I'm thrilled to announce that I will be taking over the Red Roof LinkedIn page today to share about myself and my time as an intern! Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, I attended and graduated from Columbus Academy. Currently, I am entering my junior year at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where I am majoring in Marketing with a minor in Economics. On campus, I am actively involved in Kappa Delta, a social sorority dedicated to giving back to the community and the Girl Scouts of America, through volunteer opportunities and fundraising events. I was pleased to see that in the professional world, there are also opportunities like Red Roof’s Room in Your Heart program to give back to the community. During my junior year of high school, I took a class that ignited my interest in marketing. We collaborated with companies like Pepsi and Sole Classics, helping them to solve problems dealing with brand marketing, digital marketing, and social media challenges. For instance, Coke sought ways to improve recycling marketing, while Sole Classics wanted to enhance social media outreach and platform navigation. Brainstorming ideas, from catchy slogans to put on cans to suggesting the use of a Link tree and promotional TikTok videos, fueled my passion for marketing. Transitioning into college, I enrolled in some marketing classes that reinforced my desire to pursue marketing. On the search for real-world experience, I pursued a marketing internship. At Red Roof this summer, I am eager to learn about various marketing team functions and their contributions to the company. Previously unfamiliar with these roles, this internship has already broadened my understanding by allowing me to rotate through different teams, igniting and furthering a desire to explore even more facets of marketing. What initially drew me to Red Roof was the company’s welcoming atmosphere and the genuine kindness of its employees. Throughout the interview process, everyone was extremely inviting and easy to connect with, sparking my eagerness to join the team as an intern. This welcoming environment has persisted during my time at the office, with everyone shooting a smile and ready to spark in conversation, often asking, “How are things going for you?” and finishing with “If you need anything ever, let me know.” My internship at Red Roof has already been filled with countless memorable moments, however one that stands out is our visit to Canine Companions, a partner organization of Red Roof's, which raises donations through the Room in Your Heart program. As a dog lover, witnessing the impactful work of Canine Companions was truly remarkable. Exploring the facility, hearing about their mission, and learning about their journey were enriching experiences. The highlight, of course, was getting to interact with some of the dogs at the end of our tour, adding an extra layer of joy to an already special outing!

On Saturday, June 15th, our corporate brand team members had the honor of joining the city of New Albany in the Stonewall Columbus Pride March. This event, part of the larger Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival, is a cornerstone of LGBTQ+ celebration and activism in Columbus, Ohio. From its humble beginnings in 1981, Stonewall Columbus Pride has grown into the second-largest LGBTQ+ pride event in the Midwest, drawing over 700,000 visitors to the Central Ohio region. The march is not just a parade; it’s a vital fundraiser supporting Stonewall Columbus’s community programs and operations, which have been uplifting LGBTQ+ identities for 42 years. 🏳️🌈 #Pride2024 #StonewallColumbus #LGBTQ #CommunitySupport #DiversityandInclusion #RedRoof

My name is Lauren Coy and I was selected as one of the candidates for the Red Roof summer internship program! I am thrilled to be able to take over the Red Roof LinkedIn account today. When I'm not home in Columbus, I attend the University of Cincinnati where I am a rising junior. I have found Cincinnati to be my second home, where I am involved in the sorority Delta Delta Delta. Being a part of an all women organization has given me wonderful opportunities and lifelong relationships. Tri Delta has provided me with a sense of unity and women empowerment over the years, and I have felt strongly connected to Red Roof’s all-encompassing 360-degree program called SHE. This program by Red Roof continues to empower and support women to thrive in the workplace. As a marketing student, my college classes have provided me with valuable skills and knowledge to develop my career in marketing. At the University of Cincinnati, I have completed individual and group effort projects. Specifically, my fundamental advertising and promotion class. During this course, I was able to revamp an existing non-profit organization website. I had chosen the company Dress for Success. Dress for Success is an organization that helps women find professional attire for job opportunities. My goal was to redesign the website to increase overall more traffic to the website and customers by creating a new approachable logo, landing page, icon features, and more. I Incorporated my passion for photography and fashion and used my knowledge to transform their website. This class and this specific project gave me confidence in advertising and SEO, which I have applied during my internship at Red Roof. One of my favorite memories so far working with Red Roof has been creating SEO pages for HomeTowne Studios and Red Roof Inn. In the past few weeks, I have localized content for the brand’s website, tailoring it to each property. I also audited Google business profile content for over 300 properties. My time as a marketing intern with Red Roof has been nothing short of a learning experience. But, as my time here at Red Roof continues, I am looking forward to how my skills and contributions will be towards the team. One thing I am eager to learn this summer is social media. I am intrigued to learn more about how Red Roof’s target audience reflects on the brand image of Red Roof’s social media page and how it can increase their online visibility. During my time with Red Roof, I was able to attend the Mid Year Meeting. The marketing team was given an informational class on how AI reflects the workforce and the hospitality business. Throughout that session, I was able to expand my knowledge and continue my usage effectively and beneficially in the workforce with AI. While technology is changing, so will I. I am grateful to be able to intern in marketing for Red Roof this summer and as for my plans for post-graduation in two years, I definitely see myself continuing to work in marketing.

It’s time to get to know Red Roof Inn’s new President Zack Gharib in his first major industry interview! I was blown away by his enthusiasm and committment to his new role and love he's already moved to Columbus to get right to it. I recorded this earlier this week at the NYU IHIIC. Thanks to our friends at Unifocus , technology that drives value, for supporting this video. #redroof #hotels #hotelier #hotelpodcast
