Annually, the agency serves and outreaches to well over 19,000 adults, children, youth, and families, and provides services in over 30 languages, offering over 30 clinical programs in over 90 sites citywide, to meet the diverse community needs. RAMS service areas include: individual, family & group counseling with children, youth, adults, and older adults (of all ages, starting at birth); residential services, vocational training & employment services; psychology training and clinical practicum (training the next generation of culturally competent mental health professionals), youth and adult workforce development & career pathways and education (summer day camp fostering interest and mentorship in the health & human services field; jointly operating a Certificate program with SF State University); and community organizing and advocacy activities. Mental health is often framed as an individual issue. We seek to redefine mental health by shifting the focus to institutions, highlighting how longstanding and systemic inequities contribute to unwellness. During our 2024 AANHPI Summit on Reclaiming and Redefining Mental Health, we hosted an outstanding panel on "Unpacking the Drivers of Mental Health & (Un)Wellness," moderated by Tavae Samuelu, APF Director of Community Initiatives & Grantmaking. Our fantastic group of panelists—Amy G Lam PhD from the Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB), Kevin Niuatoa from RAMS, Inc. (Pacific Islander Wellness Initiative), and Connie Wun, Ph.D. from AAPI Women Lead—explored various factors influencing AANHPI mental health, including cultural stigma, generational differences, and access to culturally competent healthcare. The panel also discussed strategies for improving mental wellness and support systems in these communities. This engaging discussion helped to raise awareness and propose actionable solutions to address these mental health challenges. A special thank you to our panelists and their respective organizations for participating in the Summit and sharing their dedication to our community, their voices and passion, and their commitment to addressing AANHPI mental health. If you missed the panel, you can watch it on our 2024 AANHPI Summit playlist at https://lnkd.in/gqnXCS4r. #AANHPISummit2024 #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters #AANHPI #AAPI

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Stanley Sue, an inspirational and transformational leader of RAMS throughout our history. Dr. Sue was an innovative pioneer in the field of Asian American psychology and a tireless advocate for the mental health needs of Asian American communities. As the founding Director of the American Psychological Association certified National Asian American Psychology Training Center at RAMS, he paved the way for generations of professionals to provide clinically sound and culturally humble mental health services to underserved and underrepresented communities. Dr. Sue’s legacy of impact on Asian American psychology will continue to inspire future generations of psychologists and mental health practitioners.

Sacramento, CA – Asian Pacific Fund President & Executive Director Carolyn Wang Kong joined the California Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Health Equity Coalition, comprising over 50 community-based organizations, to advocate for a landmark bill on Language Access presented to the California State Senate Health Committee. The bill passed with a vote of 15-0. Our nonprofit affiliates, such as Asian Health Services, the Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB), RAMS, Inc., and the Regional Pacific Islander Task Force, were also present yesterday. These affiliates continue to play an essential role in pushing for this bill, using their advocacy efforts and actively engaging the community to provide the necessary support in multiple languages. This bill, sponsored by Senator Dave Min, would establish an Office of Language Access within the California Health & Human Services Agency to provide oversight, accountability, and coordination across CalHHS' departments and offices to ensure individuals with limited English proficiency have meaningful, life-saving access to its programs and services. APF is proud to be part of the AANHPI Health Equity Coalition, founded and established in 2022 to create and advocate for an actionable 3-year statewide policy and research agenda focused on three key areas where AANHPIs are impacted by: Data Disaggregation, Language Access, and Mental Health. With nearly 17 percent of California's population identifying as AANHPI and 33 percent of the Bay Area population, APF believes we must be part of the conversations to be part of the solutions for our community.   #LanguageAccess #LanguageAccessibility #AAPI #AANHPI

🧠✨ June is Men’s Mental Health Month! Do you know? Research shows immigrant men are less likely to use mental health services than immigrant women, making men’s mental health a crucial conversation. To break the stigma and normalize seeking mental health support, we’re featuring Koorosh Ostowari who shared his personal healing journey of carrying the weight of intergenerational trauma growing up in an immigrant family.  💬🫂 It's okay to reach out, seek help, and break the cycle. #MensMentalHealth  To watch the full Breaking Barriers Forum, visit https://lnkd.in/g8TUfiPY
