Sacramento, CA – Asian Pacific Fund President & Executive Director Carolyn Wang Kong joined the California Asian American and Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Health Equity Coalition, comprising over 50 community-based organizations, to advocate for a landmark bill on Language Access presented to the California State Senate Health Committee. The bill passed with a vote of 15-0. Our nonprofit affiliates, such as Asian Health Services, the Korean Community Center of the East Bay (KCCEB), RAMS, Inc., and the Regional Pacific Islander Task Force, were also present yesterday. These affiliates continue to play an essential role in pushing for this bill, using their advocacy efforts and actively engaging the community to provide the necessary support in multiple languages. This bill, sponsored by Senator Dave Min, would establish an Office of Language Access within the California Health & Human Services Agency to provide oversight, accountability, and coordination across CalHHS' departments and offices to ensure individuals with limited English proficiency have meaningful, life-saving access to its programs and services. APF is proud to be part of the AANHPI Health Equity Coalition, founded and established in 2022 to create and advocate for an actionable 3-year statewide policy and research agenda focused on three key areas where AANHPIs are impacted by: Data Disaggregation, Language Access, and Mental Health. With nearly 17 percent of California's population identifying as AANHPI and 33 percent of the Bay Area population, APF believes we must be part of the conversations to be part of the solutions for our community.   #LanguageAccess #LanguageAccessibility #AAPI #AANHPI
