"Little research has been done in U.S. South Asian communities regarding substance use disorders (SUDs). And given the harmful notion in many Asian communities that negative emotions are a sign of weakness, it is not too surprising that many SAs turn to substances to cope. Advocates and authors, Jyoti Chand and Vasavi Chand shared their vulnerable stories of dealing with alcoholism and substance use disorders with me in order to amplify this topic and help others who may be dealing with similar issues."
