Our subsidiary, The L.E. Myers Co., has been installing and upgrading essential telecommunications equipment in Virginia for more than 20 years. 📱  The equipment is installed on top of high voltage power lines, which are energized while the crews work. Safety is always imperative, so crews review all potential hazards and develop plans to mitigate them before they begin. Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message.      We’ve all heard the saying “two heads are better than one.” On a construction site, one of the many ways we can smartly apply this concept is by having spotters help drivers during the operation of heavy equipment and large vehicles. When done correctly, a spotter can save lives and prevent injuries by acting as a second set of eyes and ears, providing important information about the vehicle’s immediate surroundings to the driver when they’re backing up a vehicle or maneuvering it through a crowded space. When you’re assessing your work set-up, take your time. Look above, below, in front of, behind, and to the sides of your work area. Then, go beyond assessing just in relation to your body – look all around heavy equipment and other items in your work area to ensure there’s nothing potentially hazardous in the vicinity. Your situational awareness will not only keep you safe, but empower you to better perform your tasks as well. In the face of emergency storm restoration, MYR Group subsidiary The L.E. Myers Co. rallies resources and crews to rebuild electrical infrastructure efficiently and safely. When a tornado damaged a 765kV structure in the Midwest, their team mobilized right away, collaborating with the local utility to analyze damage, craft a strategic plan for handling the reconstruction of the massive tower, and procure the necessary resources to execute it. Constructing 765kV towers comes with challenges inherent to their size and complexity, but L.E. Myers’ capabilities and their effective teamwork with the utility meant that the line was back up and re-energized in under four weeks, restoring power to a major electrical “backbone” in the area.
