The Bartonsville solar site in Virginia is nearing completion and should start delivering renewable energy to the electrical grid later this year, reports The Winchester Star. This project won the 2024 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award, recognizing the innovative use of our Nevados All Terrain Tracker, which eliminated the need for grading on the site's challenging rolling terrain. Our tracker allows developers to preserve the integrity of the natural landscape and vegetation, reducing stormwater runoff. It’s also faster and easier to build than other market-leading trackers, leading to big savings on construction costs. In delivering the award, Gov. Glenn Youngkin said the project demonstrates “that balanced economic development and the protection of our environment go hand in hand.” MYR Group, the EPC building the facility, added that “Facing the challenging topography at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains, characterized by hilly terrain, below-grade rock, and karst features, the Bartonsville Solar project was designed using the Nevados all-terrain trackers. This tracker system, utilizing a modular bearing system, adapts to the natural curves of the landscape with minimal required grading, aligning with environmental conservation principles.” Check the comments below for a link to the story. 🔗⬇️ #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #EnvironmentalExcellence #Innovation

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. Equipment inspection is a critical aspect of safety culture. From heavy equipment vehicles to the smallest hand tools and all their related parts and accessories, everything we use needs to be in safe, working condition. Even a minor defect can create hazardous conditions. Whether you’re doing a walk-around of a forklift or looking over a hammer, you need to comprehensively check the equipment and use a questioning attitude throughout the inspection. Don’t underestimate the importance of checking over your tools and equipment before getting started! This proactive step helps protect you and your team members on the job. At MYR Group, Safety is Life. #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety

In the face of emergency storm restoration, MYR Group subsidiary The L.E. Myers Co. rallies resources and crews to rebuild electrical infrastructure efficiently and safely. When a tornado damaged a 765kV structure in the Midwest, their team mobilized right away, collaborating with the local utility to analyze damage, craft a strategic plan for handling the reconstruction of the massive tower, and procure the necessary resources to execute it. Constructing 765kV towers comes with challenges inherent to their size and complexity, but L.E. Myers’ capabilities and their effective teamwork with the utility meant that the line was back up and re-energized in under four weeks, restoring power to a major electrical “backbone” in the area. Read more about how they took on the complex storm damage. 🔗https://lnkd.in/g8EBFkDf #LEMyers #MYRGroup #ElectricalConstruction #TransmissionLine #765kV

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. Stretching is important every day, regardless of the expected physical difficulty of the tasks you’re handling. By stretching, you’re warming up your muscles and increasing their flexibility and resilience. Your daily stretch routine should include a mix of both static and dynamic stretches. When stretching, pay attention to your body and how it’s feeling. Over time, you can try increasing the motion or exertion of a stretch as your muscle strength and flexibility increases. You also need to pay attention to your breathing while you stretch. Deep, steady breathing helps get oxygen to your muscles and increases blood flow. When your muscles are tense or shortened, they are more susceptible to injury. Start your workday off on the right (and safe!) foot by properly prepping your body for the job ahead. Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. With 27 bones, 27 joints, 34 muscles, and hundreds of ligaments, tendons, blood vessels, and nerves, the human hand is a crucial tool not only on the job site, but in the day-to-day as well, so it’s crucial we protect our hands when we work. Doing so means: • Wearing the appropriate gloves for the task you are doing. MYR Group provides gloves for many different types of tasks, including cut-resistant, rubber, leather, high-voltage, and low-voltage gloves. • Ensuring your gloves fit correctly – not so tight that they restrict movement, but snug enough to be secure on your hands. • Not using your hands to remove things such as protruding nails or shards of glass without gloves, even when performing tasks that don’t require them. • Protecting your hands from environmental conditions, from cold weather that could lead to frostbite to hot weather that causes sweat and decreases your ability to grip objects. We use our hands all day every day, so we need to make sure we don't become complacent in protecting them. At MYR Group, Safety is Life. #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety
