Seven months ago, I took a leap of faith on a part-time job at the Matthews Help Center to fulfill a career-long dream of working for a non-profit in the hope that it would lead to a full-time opportunity. As my incredible manager Molly Hedrick heads into retirement, I’m happy to share that I'm taking over for her as the Director of Retail Operations at Matthews HELP Center! Matthews Help Center provides short-term crisis assistance to those in need in the greater Matthews community. Sales from the center's retail operation, Backporch Treasures Thrift Boutique, provide a significant portion of the financial assistance given out each year. We accept donations Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, and Backporch Treasures is open for shoppers Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm. Stop by and visit us if you're in the area. There's a treasure waiting for everyone who steps in our doors, plus the smiling faces of the more than 180 volunteers who keep this incredible organization humming each week.
