Last week, our Summer Associates had the wonderful opportunity to visit our valued client, Pella Windows & Doors of Omaha & Lincoln, NE. It was a fantastic chance to learn about our long-standing relationship, which stemmed from connections forged over 15 years ago with our founders and Chairman, Mike Hupp. Our hosts shared a business overview, insights into what they value most about our firm and attorneys, and details about the types of work we assist them with. From litigation to employment contracts, it was invaluable for this group to gain firsthand knowledge of the diverse legal needs Pella faces and how our services directly support their operations. In recognition of Juneteenth yesterday, we closed our office and celebrated with a paid holiday to allow our employees to celebrate, reflect, and honor Freedom Day, which commemorates the day the last 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas were informed of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. As part of our Juneteenth celebration, we also organized a voluntary neighborhood cleanup event in partnership with the Urban League of Nebraska, Inc. and the North 24th Street Business Improvement District. For two hours, nearly 60 volunteers gathered at the Global Leadership Group Community Garden and completed various projects, including moving unused bricks, leveling the ground around their garden shed, paving a new walkway, weeding and replanting garden beds, building compost stalls, mulching a lawn for an elderly neighbor, and walking the neighborhood to pick up trash. We enjoyed collaborating with new faces and spending time together while sprucing up the area and supporting the missions of the BID and the Global Leadership Group, both dedicated to revitalizing North 24th Street through community engagement and economic development. This was a truly meaningful way to honor Juneteenth, and we're grateful to all who participated. #juneteenth #freedomday #kjatwork #communityengagement #givingback #volunteering
