Welcoming old hands and new faces, we had lots of fun at the June 2024 Washington DC Connect, which took place at a new DC venue, Hotel Zena, that caters to women in a big way. It was wonderful to welcome new faces into the DC IAWA network. Thank you to all who came out as your enthusiasm and energy invigorates us all!

Paula Popp is a master's student at ENAC - Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile specializing in International Air Transport Operations Management. Born in Romania, Paula moved to France at the age of 5. Her passion for aviation started early and has only grown stronger over time. Initially aspiring to be an astronaut, she found her true calling in aeronautics through her private pilot training. With a strong background in Physics and Mathematics, Paula pursued a double major after her Baccalaureate. Alongside her studies, she has been dedicated to teaching private lessons and actively engaging in volunteer activities. Paula’s involvement in aviation-related associations, such as Airexpo and FlyImpulse, reflects her commitment to the field. She has helped organize the Airexpo airshow as member of the Partnership committee and participated in the Hackathon Hack'célération 3.0 focused on sustainable aviation. After the Hackathon, she decided to join the organizing committee at the FlyImpulse, an ENAC association, as a member of the events division. Raised by her single mother, she credits her with shaping the woman she is today. The IAWA scholarship is not only a professional milestone for her career through the high-level conferences it gives access to, but also a way to honor her mother's efforts and values. She taught Paula how to be a woman in society, and the mentors from IAWA will help her learn how to be a woman in aerospace. Paula aspires to become a mentor and contribute to the advancement of women in aviation.
