Did you know HER wasn't always HER? That our first product totally missed the mark with our real user needs? Read about our early days and all the things our founder Robyn Exton (she / her) got right (and wrong!) in the early days. As always, listening to users and focussing on the unique problems and experiences of our sapphic community was the answer. 300 million matches and counting - we've got a lot more love to give 🏳️🌈 https://lnkd.in/gYmhjg27
"My First..." is a monthly series by Jennifer Wolf about the critical early decisions in startups that can make or break a company's chances of success. Each month, Jen Wolf talks to founders from our portfolio about their first experiences in hiring, product development, customers, and more. Just in time for #PrideMonth, Jen sat down with Robyn Exton (she / her), founder of HER Social, a sapphic dating and community app, to talk about her first experiences in building a product that is now used by over 14M users. HER prioritizes unique experiences through features like IRL event discovery and community connections. 🌈 Key takeaways from their conversation include: • The rebranding of the app from 'Dattch' to 'HER’. • Emphasizing user-centric product design. • The importance of continuous user engagement to enable over 300M matches. “Truly, from where I first started, I didn't understand the concept of product design and how our branding comes from the position of having a belief and delivering that through everything you do. Now, I think designing products comes from observing user behavior, determining what will provide the most value, and building for that. There’s a lot of intuition in reading between the tea leaves to find where the value sits.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gYmhjg27

HER App reposted this
We spoke to Robyn Exton (she / her), founder of the queer dating app HER App, to find out more about her thoughts on a new lesbian dating app which reports to use facial recognition technology to exclude trans users. She notes the launch of this new app only for lesbian women during Pride as "disappointing." This is a month where we’re supposed to talk about rights, equality and equal access for our whole community and this is the time when you choose to build a platform that you intentionally discriminate against part of our community," Exton said. Exton launched HER in 2015 as a welcoming dating community for queer women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people. Read more below! #PrideMonth #LGBTQ

Yesterday, we were mentioned in a few tweets and a PinkNews article and wanted to check it out. After reading more into it, we wanted to remind our audience where we stand, and that is in solidarity with Trans people and Trans Lesbians. Pride is about celebrating diversity and liberating queer people. We will always welcome the trans community searching for sapphic love on our app. https://lnkd.in/evpsQwxm #Pride #TransPride #LesbianPride #Inclusion
