    At Garcoa, we are excited to announce a major step forward in our sustainability journey. ♻️ Starting this year, we will source all our paper components exclusively from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified sources. This decision underscores our commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible forest management. ♻️ Sourcing paper from FSC or SFI certified vendors ensures that the paper we use comes from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. ♻️By choosing FSC and SFI certified paper, we are helping to combat deforestation and promote sustainable forestry practices. This not only helps to maintain the health of forest ecosystems but also plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change by preserving the forests' ability to act as carbon sinks. ♻️ Additionally, our commitment to certified paper supports the market for sustainably produced paper products, encouraging more suppliers to adopt responsible forestry practices. ♻️ This decision is part of our broader sustainability strategy, aimed at reducing our environmental impact and supporting global efforts to promote ecological balance.     We are pleased to announce an important step in our commitment to environmental sustainability. ♻️ Starting this year, all plastic packaging for our non-over-the-counter (non-OTC) items will transition from virgin plastic to a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. ♻️ This change is a significant part of our broader strategy to reduce our environmental footprint and promote a circular economy. ♻️ The shift to PCR plastic packaging is anticipated to have substantial positive impacts on the environment. By utilizing PCR materials, we are reducing the demand for new plastic production, which in turn decreases the consumption of fossil fuels associated with plastic manufacturing. ♻️ This change aligns with our company's sustainability goals and responds to the growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible products. We are committed to continuously improving our environmental practices and supporting global efforts to tackle plastic waste. We believe that this transition to PCR packaging is a significant step forward in our journey toward sustainability.     On the topic of whether sustainability is becoming table stakes and mainstream in the same way clean beauty has, Rachel Brown rounded up great insights from insiders and experts (thanks for including me!). 🌠 My TL;DR thoughts: We still have a ways to go... Like clean beauty, the growing demand for sustainable products reflects a broader movement in consumer preferences towards more ethical consumption and less hyperconsumerism. Many beauty brands are implementing sustainable packaging initiatives, offering product refill options and promoting recycling programs. However, sustainability is far from table stakes. From sourcing practices and packaging to product disposal and recyclability, it is incredibly challenging to have fully end-to-end sustainable product that also meets consumers' high expectations and demands. While consumers increasingly expect brands to be focused on sustainability, this product attribute does not outweigh the impact of efficacy, experience and even virality as drivers of purchasing decisions. Yes, sustainability has become more mainstream in beauty, but brands should not sacrifice on product efficacy, experience and even price as these continue to have a bigger impact currently on consumer adoption and purchasing.     Our Executive Vice President, richie rubin, shared his thoughts on the current economic state and its impact on beauty brands with Rachel Brown at Beauty Independent. While consumers are more discretionary with their income, particularly in Q1 compared to Q4 of last year, "they are still actively consuming items that make them look/feel good," he said. Known as the "lipstick effect," the beauty industry demonstrates resilience during times of economic turndown because consumers still seek an emotional uplift by making themselves feel and look good without breaking the bank. This could not be more true than it is today, while people are looking for affordable luxury. While luxury brands may see a decline, brands that innovate, evoke a sense of wellbeing and deliver high-quality results without commanding ultra-premium prices are likely to perform well.
