Discovery Campers dedicated their morning to assisting Park District staff with weed removal and learning about various plants and flowers in the Discovery Park garden. A few years ago, Discovery Park received an Earth Day in the Parks Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. This program encourages the stewardship of natural resources by engaging Illinois school children in activities like planting native trees and wildflowers. During the summer, we involve our campers to teach them the importance of caring for nature. 💚🌳

Serving the Franklin Park community by providing recreation opportunities through quality programs, parks & facilities.
About us
Our Mission: Dedicated to the Franklin Park community, we provide unique recreation opportunities through quality programs, parks, and facilities. Entrusted with our residents' investment, we are committed to fiscal responsibility, innovative leadership, and the highest standard of service. Challenged with environmental and energy concerns, we are responsible for conservation, community education, and the best practices in resource management. Considering the needs of our richly diverse community, we create awareness of the lifelong benefits of parks and recreation. Founded by concerned citizens in July 1964, the Park District of Franklin Park serves approximately 15,158 residents residing north of Grand Avenue in Franklin Park. It offers more than 250 programs each year, and operates seventeen parks totaling 24.14 acres and four facilities. Facilities include the year-round Franklin Park Ice Arena, the newly renovated Pool on Pacific - which includes an Olympic-size swimming pool, a zero depth area with spray features, a drop slide and two tube slides - the Centre at North Park Banquet Hall and Sports Arena, and the Community Center. The park district employs 22 full-time staff, augmented seasonally by more than 120 part-time employees. We participate in a special recreation cooperative, the West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA). Supported by eleven park districts, the association provides special leisure services for people with disabilities.
