In 133-107 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Detroit Pistons are now 2-16. While no one thought the Pistons were going to be a playoff team this year, no one expected them to be one of the worst teams in the League. When I looked at the Pistons Box Score this morning it was clear to me that among other things, they have a Lineup Construction Problem. The Starting Lineup of Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart, and Jalen Duren although very talented doesn't complement each other. If we focus purely on Offense, of the five players on the court only Stewart is an above average 3 Point Shooter. Duren doesn't shoot 3s and Thompson is shooting 11%. Ivey and Cunningham at this stage aren't good three point shooters either. In the modern NBA, the Pistons are throwing out a starting lineup that doesn't space the floor. They also don't have anybody who can operate in the mid-range. There was expectation that Cunningham would develop that part of his game, that hasn't come yet. Ivey is very much a slasher and a good finisher near the basket. The kicker is that apart from Jaden Ivey this Starting 5 doesn't have good finishers around the rim. How do you Build an Offense that doesn't have the tools to score on any of the three levels? A couple of notes and thoughts upon reflection from the Outside Summit last week: The demand for recreation and locations, spaces, and infrastructure to do so, outpaces the current supply of recreation infrastructure. It's time to do something about that and, if it's to be done properly, needs proper funding and strategic planning to be to scale. But such opportunity matches the current trend towards trade school education and jobs. We need to properly invest in and pay outdoor industry workers, especially those building the infrastructure that creates use and therein sales (products and services). The OREC Industry as a whole needs to support the infrastructure. We continue to expect companies to act voluntarily to do the right thing (and some do), but the reality is we need a bigger structure in place actually causing such change. Funding that will have strategic outlined purposes that across the board will not only support the industry, but also the users and communities. Much of this change is and can be economic, and spurred by political support. To do so, we need to speak to those that aren't part of our "choir". We have the data and need to put together the messaging to show that OREC can be a seriously large sustainable economic driver and platform. On that note, we need to work on the messaging for all aspects of important things for the OREC Industry (and in reality society). From stewardship, to economics and workforce, and environment to DEI/CSR/ESG. So we're not talking at people, but with them to improve understanding, adoption, support, and implementation. Finally, the favorite product and brand (of which I was not previously aware) I came across at The Big Gear Show was MODL Outdoors and their tie down straps. Smart and very useful product, with more ideas coming. OREC Investment can improve this world for all.

While many playgrounds are adopting sun shades and sails over their play structures, most do not have them. Always check the temperature of playground equipment (especially slides) before letting your kids play on them. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their bodies.
